Unable to\u200c open the vehicle due to the dead battery, which disabled both her\u2062 phone\u2062 key and card \u2064key, Sanchez quickly\u200d called 911. The firefighters who arrived \u2063initially \u200cstruggled to access the car, famously noting the difficulty with Teslas, but proceeded \u200dto break a\u2064 window \u200cto rescue the toddler, causing distress\u2063 to the child amidst \u200cthe chaos.<\/p>\n<p>Sanchez expressed both relief at her granddaughter&#8217;s safety and frustration towards Tesla, suggesting the company failed to provide a warning that the battery was low as promised. Criticism was also aimed at Tesla&#8217;s design choices, specifically their electronic door latches, which lacked reliable emergency overrides. The narrative calls into question Tesla\u2019s commitment to safety over more superficial\u200d technological appeal, igniting discussions on the\u2062 need for better-prepared\u200c emergency responses for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-climate-agenda-wont-replace-jobs-it-seeks-to-kill-separate-ap-wapo-fact-checks-suggest\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Climate Agenda Won\u2019t Replace Jobs It Seeks To Kill, Separate AP, WaPo Fact-Checks Suggest\">electric vehicle<\/a> incidents. \u200dThe importance of federal standards for \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-california-privacy-law-prohibits-sharing-in-vehicle-camera-footages-without-consumer-consent\/\" title=\"New law in California: No sharing of in-vehicle camera footage without consent.\">vehicle safety features<\/a>\u200d was underscored to prevent\u2062 such dangerous situations.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/%20\"><span>Jack Davis<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 22, 2024 at 8:38am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>When the battery on a Tesla dies, the interior can be little more than a giant oven for someone trapped inside, as an Arizona woman learned.<\/p>\n<p>Renee Sanchez recently learned how quickly owning an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-model-y-owner-says-car-trapped-inside-hot-arizona-summer-day-battery-died\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EV<\/a> can turn into a horrifying experience on a scorching Arizona day as the Scotttsdale woman planned to take her 20-month-old granddaughter into her car seat for a trip to the Phoenix Zoo, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2024\/06\/20\/toddler-trapped-car-when-tesla-battery-dies-scottsdale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KPHO-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I closed the door, went around the car, get in the front seat, and my car was dead,\u201d she said. \u201cI could not get in. My phone key wouldn\u2019t open it. My card key wouldn\u2019t open it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanchez called 911. Scottsdale firefighters responded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd when they got here, the first thing they said was, \u2018Uggh, it\u2019s a Tesla. We can\u2019t get in these cars,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018I don\u2019t care if you have to cut my car in half. Just get her out.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters took an ax to a window, taping it first to minimize flying glass.<\/p>\n<p>As the process played out, the toddler began to panic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was OK for the first few minutes,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cBut as soon as the firemen came and all the commotion started and the windows getting broken into, she started crying because she was scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, the girl was pulled free.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Would you ever buy an electric vehicle?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAfter I knew she was safe, then the anger,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cThen, all the thoughts of, oh my God, this could have been so much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/teslas-bad-week-gets-even-worse-stock-plummet-followed-major-vehicle-recall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla<\/a> is supposed to give owners a warning when the battery is ready to die, Sanchez said, and the Tesla service department backed her up, that she received none.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen that battery goes, you\u2019re dead in the water,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said she is reconsidering her faith in Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI give Tesla props. When it works, it\u2019s great. But when it doesn\u2019t, it can be deadly,\u201d Sanchez said.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla does have a method to get out of a car if its battery dies, but that\u2019s not much help when a toddler is the only one inside the vehicle, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2024\/06\/dead-tesla-traps-toddler-in-hot-car-raises-concerns-about-electric-doors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CarScoops<\/a>. There is also a method of jump-starting the vehicle, but it requires knowing how to do that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need to educate the first responders because they had no idea,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cThey were as much in the dark as I was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EV expert Mike Klimkosky said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/firefighters-dish-damning-info-electric-vehicles-biden-buckles-green-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first responders<\/a> must educate themselves, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/20\/tesla-trapped-toddler-in-car-arizona-heat-renee-sanchez-firefighters-safety-last\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fortune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the responsibility of the fire department to educate themselves,\u201d Klimkosky said.<\/p>\n<p>But Michael Brooks, the executive director for the Center for Auto Safety, said Tesla is to blame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not the firefighters\u2019 fault that Tesla chose electronic door latches that don\u2019t have proper emergency safeguards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen there\u2019s not a federal standard that specifies how these vehicles are to be made, Tesla very rarely chooses routes that are safe,\u201d Brooks said. \u201cThey\u2019re usually choosing something glitzy: safety comes last.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
