This request was submitted following Trump&#8217;s trial, \u2064and although he argued for its removal claiming there was\u2063 no longer any basis\u2064 for it since the trial had concluded,\u200c the\u2064 prosecutors proposed keeping some parts of \u2063the order. Specifically, \u2062while Trump could now discuss witnesses from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/double-booked-trump-rumored-to-make-appearances-at-two-huge-hearings-in-different-states\/\" title=\"Trump may attend two major hearings in different states, causing a double booking\">hush money \u2062case<\/a>, the order would still prohibit him from\u2064 speaking about prosecutors, court staff, and their\u200d families.\u200b The prosecutors\u200b have not suggested a specific end date for\u2064 the gag order, but\u2063 mentioned that lifting it before Trump&#8217;s sentencing\u2063 on July 11 would be premature. \u2064Trump has \u200bexpressed \u200bdissatisfaction with the gag order, particularly\u200d as it restricts him from discussing certain individuals like Matthew\u200d Colangelo, a\u2062 prosecutor in the case and a former Biden administration official, whom Trump believes is inappropriately linked to political bias in his prosecution.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/alvin-bragg\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alvin Bragg<\/a> asked a judge to keep in place most of the provisions of a gag order the judge imposed on former President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> in April, according to a court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/744144346\/Bragg-gag-order-response?secret_password=0jZVLMaNTyQqEHXMUcSf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filing<\/a> made public Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said that while they agreed with Trump that witnesses in the hush money case should be fair game for Trump to speak about now that his trial is over, prosecutors, court staff, and their families should remain off-limits.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutors\u2019 argument came in response to Trump asking Judge Juan Merchan to terminate the gag order immediately because the end of the trial meant there was \u201cno longer any basis\u201d for the order.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors did not specify a proposed end date to the gag order, but they did suggest that it would be premature to terminate it before Trump is set to be sentenced on July 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefendant\u2019s demand that this Court precipitously end these protections, even before the sentencing hearing on July 11, is overstated and largely unfounded,\u201d prosecutors wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has been restricted from talking about key figures in the case who he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oversight-members-outline-pattern-of-ethical-issues-at-granholms-energy-department\/\" title=\"Oversight Members Outline \u2018Pattern of Ethical Issues\u2019 at Granholm\u2019s Energy Department\">previously raised concerns<\/a> about prior to the gag order\u2019s issuance.<\/p>\n<p>They include one of Bragg\u2019s leading prosecutors, Matthew Colangelo, a former senior official in the Biden administration\u2019s Department of Justice. Trump has argued Colangelo is too closely tied to President Joe Biden, Trump\u2019s lead opponent in the presidential race, and has also made claims without evidence that Biden used Colangelo to direct Bragg, an elected Democrat, to prosecute Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The gag order also limits Trump from speaking about Merchan\u2019s daughter Loren. Trump has argued in and out of court that Loren Merchan\u2019s line of work at a firm that does marketing for national Democratic candidates presented a conflict of interest for the judge. Juan Merchan twice refused to recuse himself from the case when Trump\u2019s attorneys requested it.<\/p>\n<p>The gag order also limits Trump from talking about witnesses in the case, including Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels. Both have been vocal critics of Trump and have adopted public personalities that center on their experiences with Trump. Meanwhile, Trump has been unable to respond outside of court to their attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Bragg agreeing with Trump that witnesses should be excised from the order could now invite Juan Merchan to permit Trump to speak about Cohen and Daniels, but it is unclear when Merchan will issue an order on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>The judge found during the trial that Trump violated the gag order and, at the time, fined Trump thousands of dollars and warned the former president his next violation would result in jail time.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also challenged the constitutionality of the order, saying it was an unprecedented violation of the free speech rights of a presidential candidate.
