In \u200dan interview on \u2062the All-In podcast, Trump promised\u200d unlimited permanent residency and work permits to these graduates,\u200d a position that diverges from his previous &#8220;America First&#8221; immigration \u2064policy. Immigration-restrictive\u200d advocacy\u200b groups\u200b have urged Trump to reconsider,\u2064 arguing that such a policy would disadvantage U.S. citizens competing for jobs. The Trump campaign later specified that this would not extend to \u200bindividuals considered &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democratic-congresswoman-calls-el-paso-new-ellis-island\/\" title=\"Democratic Congresswoman Calls El Paso \u2018New Ellis Island\u2019\">public charges<\/a>&#8221; or those who are anti-American.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Border groups normally aligned with former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a> are balking at his promise to provide green cards \u201cautomatically\u201d to any foreign student who attends a U.S. university or junior college.<\/p>\n<p>Nonprofit and advocacy organizations seeking to restrict immigration called on the presumptive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Republican<\/a> presidential nominee to walk back a statement he made in an interview that aired Thursday evening, in which he said he would hand out an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-aoc-mcdonalds-employees-in-denmark-arent-better-off\/\" title=\"No, AOC, McDonald\u2019s Employees in Denmark Aren\u2019t Better Off\">unlimited number<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-border-patrol-chief-applauds-reinstatement-of-colleague-amid-controversy\/\" title=\"Former Border Patrol Chief supports colleague's reinstatement despite controversy.\">permanent residency cards<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">work<\/a> permits to students who graduate from American schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you please promise us you will give us more ability to import the best and brightest around the world to America?\u201d Jason Calacanis asked Trump in the <em>All-In<\/em> podcast hosted by Silicon Valley tech investors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do promise,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBut I happen to agree. Otherwise, I wouldn\u2019t promise. \u2026 You graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mnuchin-600-stimulus-payments-could-be-deposited-starting-tonight\/\" title=\"Mnuchin: 0 Stimulus Payments Could Be Deposited Starting Tonight\">green card<\/a> to be able to stay in this country, and that includes junior colleges, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The promise is a perceived departure from the Trump administration\u2019s commitment to putting U.S. citizens first in line for jobs and has sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oath-of-office-biden-ran-on-fixing-the-immigration-system-but-border-crisis-burgeons\/\" title=\"Biden vowed to address immigration, yet border crisis grows\">immigration restrictionists<\/a> into shock, with public opposition to a policy they argue would make non-U.S. citizens harder to compete against. The Trump campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/06\/20\/trump-green-card-college-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">clarified afterward<\/a> that certain groups would be filtered out, including \u201cpublic charges\u201d and \u201cAmerica haters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Project for Immigration Reform, part of the Washington-based conservative Institute for Sound Public Policy, warned that the \u201csky is the limit\u201d given how liberally Trump said he intended to issue green cards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump specifically said stapling a green card to \u2018any\u2019 college diploma,\u201d PIR wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PFIRorg\/status\/1804005023720030665\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">post<\/a> to X early Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration group NumbersUSA, which favors reducing immigration levels, said the move would put the existing system \u201con steroids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019d turn colleges into visa mills,\u201d Jeremy Beck, vice president of NumbersUSA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/06\/20\/trump-green-card-college-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">told<\/a> the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Neetu Arnold, a research scholar for the National Association of Scholars, pointed to the impact that it could have on enrollment at universities and colleges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf college becomes a guaranteed path to a green card, won\u2019t we get a bunch of universities that are essentially pay-for-green card schools?
