These two entities, which are part of a sprawling Tides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/organization\/tides-nexus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>network<\/a> that utilizes an opaque funding structure to fuel progressive causes, help keep the lights on for Hamas-sympathetic organizations calling for the dismantling of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The $17 million in funding, traced by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> through tax forms filed with the IRS since 2012, illustrates how Patagonia has a major footing in progressive circles embracing staunch anti-Israel activism after the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack on Israel. That largesse was delivered in the form of grants, minus $52,614 that Patagonia paid the Tides Foundation between May 2021 and April 2022 earmarked for \u201cconsulting services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patagonia, which has grown increasingly partisan following an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/01\/30\/climate\/patagonia-holdfast-philanthropy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>unusual<\/a> corporate restructuring in 2022, claimed earlier this month that it was launching an internal review over the money that Patagonia\u2019s tax-exempt arm gave to Alliance for Global Justice \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/3034001\/patagonia-palestinian-terrorism-linked-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>a fact first reported<\/a> by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. Based in Arizona, AFGJ shares connections to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a U.S.-designated terrorist group, a relationship that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2577243\/terror-tied-charity-faces-uncertain-future-as-liberal-donors-and-payment-processors-jump-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>prompted<\/a> donors and payment processors to cut ties with the registered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/729321\/left-wing-charity-faces-legal-complaint-over-fundraiser-for-palestinian-terror-linked-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>charity<\/a>. Patagonia, however, has declined to share details or a timeline for its touted internal review.<\/p>\n<p>The Tides Foundation and Tides Center, which share an office in San Francisco and combined disclosed over $1 billion in assets on 2022 tax forms, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2568235\/hamas-friendly-protest-groups-bankrolled-by-democratic-dark-money-juggernaut-tides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>are key cogs in a network<\/a> of Tides groups that have propped up more than 1,400 fiscally sponsored projects since 1976. Fiscal sponsorship is an arrangement in which a charity, under IRS rules, may house initiatives sharing its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leah-remini-says-her-16-year-old-daughter-keeps-her-woke\/\" title=\"Leah Remini Says Her 16-Year-Old Daughter Keeps Her \u2018Woke\u2019\">tax-exempt status<\/a> that also receive services such as donation processing and legal oversight. This means charities and their projects are technically one and the same \u2014 indistinct legal entities under federal law. And fiscal sponsorship, as some watchdog groups <a href=\"https:\/\/capitalresearch.org\/article\/unearthing-the-tides-nexus-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>argue<\/a>, paves the way for a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2804931\/news-washington-examiners-gabe-kaminsky-explains-investigating-dark-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>dark money<\/a>\u201d pass-through system that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2570858\/democratic-dark-money-kingmaker-pumps-millions-into-nonpartisan-supreme-court-watchdogs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>obscures<\/a> the original source of donations to and from groups, since projects do not have to file their own financial disclosures with the IRS.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, the Tides Foundation, which was founded by left-wing philanthropist Drummond Pike, incubated the Tides Center to handle fiscal sponsorship services. The two Tides groups regularly shuffle millions of dollars back and forth between each other. And they haven\u2019t been without legal controversy, either: the national Black Lives Matter group, which was previously housed under the Tides Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2997712\/black-lives-matter-dark-money-group-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>is suing<\/a> the Tides Foundation for allegedly mismanaging $33 million of its cash, according to a complaint filed in May in California Superior Court, Los Angeles County.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Tides-linked offshoots are front-and-center after the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which left roughly 1,200 people dead in the Jewish state. Patagonia\u2019s grants to the Tides Center and the Tides Foundation were earmarked for \u201cenvironmental projects,\u201d but it\u2019s unclear which. Spokespeople for Patagonia and Tides did not reply to requests for comment from the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Those Tides offshoots range from Palestine Legal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/2709472\/key-legal-cog-in-anti-israel-movement-works-overtime-to-protect-antisemitic-college-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>which aims to shield<\/a> antisemitic college campus groups from legal issues, to Adalah Justice Project, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/this-grassroots-anti-israel-group-is-actually-part-of-a-left-wing-dark-money-behemoth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>which circulated<\/a> a document after Oct. 7 for signatories to \u201cstand with the Palestinian people\u2019s right to defend themselves,\u201d to the Arab Resource and Organizing Center \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2454538\/israeli-designated-terror-organization-helped-plan-blockade-of-massive-us-port\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>a coalition that blocks ports<\/a>, reportedly to restrict U.S. weapons from going to Israel. The Arab Resource and Organizing Center coordinates on anti-Israel activism with the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, an Israeli<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/document-heres-why-israel-designated-six-palestinian-charities-as-terror-groups\/\" title=\"DOCUMENT: Here\u2019s Why Israel Designated Six Palestinian Charities as Terror Groups\">-designated terrorist group<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/3034001\/patagonia-palestinian-terrorism-linked-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> fiscally sponsored<\/a> by Alliance for Global Justice.<\/p>\n<p>The Tides Center serves as the sponsor for these three projects, which, like other initiatives housed under the charity, rake in donations that are difficult \u2014 if not impossible \u2014 to trace fully through financial disclosures. Tax forms reported by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/this-grassroots-anti-israel-group-is-actually-part-of-a-left-wing-dark-money-behemoth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>show<\/a> the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, a group run by the Rockefeller family, has funneled $710,000 in earmarked grants to the Tides Center for the Adalah Justice Project since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>But organizations such as the Rockefeller Brothers Fund are under no obligation to publish these details, meaning philanthropies may merely report the donations as going to the fiscal sponsor: the Tides Center. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to overstate the importance of fiscal sponsorship for the antisemitic and pro-terrorist movement in the United States to be able to covertly fundraise,\u201d said Ryan Mauro, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/as-taliban-takeovers-paints-gloom-in-afghanistan-biden-vows-to-stay-out-of-it\/\" title=\"As Taliban Takeovers Paints Gloom In Afghanistan, Biden Vows To Stay Out Of It\">national security analyst<\/a> at Capital Research Center. A separate think tank called Zachor Legal Institute notably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2444288\/palestinian-terrorists-exploit-loopholes-for-taxpayer-dollars-watchdog-tells-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>sent Congress a memo<\/a> last year detailing how Palestinian terrorist factions \u201cexploit\u201d fiscal sponsorship arrangements, allegedly to sidestep U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Another Tides Center-housed project is the Catalyst Project, which <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn01.dailycaller.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-23-155013.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>praised<\/a> Oct. 7 as a \u201chistoric act of resistance\u201d that worked to thwart the \u201csettler colonial regime\u201d of Israel. Meanwhile, the Tides Center and its sister foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2695620\/democratic-dark-money-giant-behind-anti-israel-protests-has-scored-81m-in-taxpayer-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>which have received over $81 million<\/a> in federal funding since 2006, also bankroll standalone activist hubs sympathizing with terrorists. <\/p>\n<p>The Tides groups support WESPAC Foundation, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/freeahmadsaadat.org\/campaign-supporters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigned<\/a> to free the long-imprisoned terrorist Ahmad Saadat, and also sponsors Students for Justice in Palestine, a coalition of pro-Palestinian activists on college campuses. The Tides Foundation supports IfNotNow and Jewish Voices for Peace, a pair of anti-Israel organizations behind, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2449233\/violent-dnc-protest-against-israel-birthed-by-left-wing-dark-money-machine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>for example<\/a>, a violent November 2023 protest outside the the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>One <a href=\"https:\/\/sunrisecolumbia.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>chapter<\/a> of a Tides Foundation grantee, the climate-focused Sunrise Movement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.columbiaspectator.com\/opinion\/2024\/03\/08\/divestment-unites-us-from-environmental-justice-to-a-free-palestine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>wrote<\/a> in a March op-ed in Columbia University\u2019s student paper that it stands \u201cin solidarity with calls to divest from Israel and corporations that sustain Israeli apartheid\u201d and supports \u201ca complete divestment from both fossil fuel companies and companies supporting the oppression of Palestinians.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Tides Foundation in 2022, moreover, sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2568235\/hamas-friendly-protest-groups-bankrolled-by-democratic-dark-money-juggernaut-tides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>$104,000 check<\/a> to Code Pink, the anti-Israel activists of which in June interrupted a recent appearance by Vice President Kamala Harris on Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s late-night show. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to stop sending money to Israel,\u201d one activist reportedly shouted at the vice president while she was on stage. <\/p>\n<p>To attorney Marc Greendorfer, a terrorism financing analyst leading Zachor Legal Institute, progressive groups such as those in the Tides network pave the way for anti-Israel extremism to run rampant in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last year, his group filed an IRS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/729321\/left-wing-charity-faces-legal-complaint-over-fundraiser-for-palestinian-terror-linked-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>complaint<\/a> accusing Alliance for Global Justice, which has received millions of dollars from the Tides Center and the Tides Foundation, of providing material support to terrorism. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, as we have seen since the Palestinian massacre of Israelis on Oct. 7, many of the environmental and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-los-angeles-democratic-mayor-eric-garcetti-booed-at-dodgers-home-opener\/\" title=\"WATCH: Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti Booed At Dodgers Home Opener\">social justice groups<\/a> now openly support Palestinian terror as well,\u201d Greendorfer told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patagonia\u2019s private foundation, criticized following a Washington Examiner report, has funneled over $17 million to the Tides Foundation and Tides Center.
