Jackson ruling in 2022, which found no \u200dconstitutional right to abortion, all states with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scotus-to-hear-appeal-over-ky-abortion-law\/\" title=\"SCOTUS to hear appeal over Ky. abortion law\">pro-life laws<\/a> have enacted additional legislation aimed \u200cat supporting pregnant women, postpartum mothers, and babies. This \u2062information\u200c comes from a report titled \u201cTwo Years \u2062After Dobbs\u201d by the \u200cEthics and Public Policy Center&#8217;s Life and Family Initiative, which evaluated the legislative responses\u200d in 21 states following the decision. \u200bThese laws include expanded Medicaid coverage, childcare subsidies, investment in pregnancy resource centers, paid parental leave, \u200bscreening for postpartum depression, and broader eligibility\u200d for social safety net services. Jackson<\/a><\/em>, that there is no constitutional right to abortion.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/eppc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/24-06-Two-Years-Later.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new report<\/a> from the Ethics and Public Policy Center\u2019s (EPPC) Life and Family Initiative entitled \u201cTwo Years After <em>Dobbs<\/em>\u201d evaluated 21 states whose new abortion restrictions were made legal by the <em>Dobbs <\/em>decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuilding an authentically pro-life America will take years. But states can buttress the irreplaceable work of charities, churches, and non-profits by investing in programs that support moms during pregnancy, make life a little easier for families, and ensure young children get the healthy start they need,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/eppc.org\/publication\/two-years-after-dobbs\/#:~:text=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> Patrick T. Brown, author of the report and EPPC fellow. \u201c\u2018Two Years After <em>Dobbs<\/em>\u2019 underscores that while more needs to be done, states are taking the lead in enacting laws that both protect and meaningful support the unborn, their moms, and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>State legislation has included <a href=\"https:\/\/eppc.org\/publication\/two-years-after-dobbs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extended Medicaid coverage<\/a>, childcare subsidies, investment into pregnancy resource centers, paid parental leave, expanded screening for postpartum depression, and expanded eligibility for safety net services. The <a href=\"https:\/\/eppc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/24-06-Two-Years-Later.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> found that some states expanded support \u201cto the tune of tens of millions of dollars annually.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This information challenges the recurring claim of the pro-abortion movement, which accuses pro-life activists of \u201chypocrisy\u201d and a failure to extend their pro-life care beyond pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Following news that the Supreme Court would overturn <em>Dobbs<\/em>, numerous media outlets and politicians claimed that pro-life activists have no interest in the well-being of women and children beyond reducing the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/04\/x-suspends-pro-life-columnist-for-exposing-the-gratuitous-gore-of-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">violence of abortion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir appalling attack on reproductive rights is nothing more than blatant hypocrisy,\u201d Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frederica Wilson<\/a>, D-Fla., wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/opinion\/op-ed\/article261412107.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an op-ed<\/a> for the Miami Herald, \u201cI often hear my Republican colleagues claim to be \u2018pro-life.\u2019 Yet, they only care about a baby until it is born. Then they disappear and abandon the children they claim to protect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In The Nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/society\/pro-life-charity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">piece entitled<\/a> \u201cThe So-Called \u201cPro-Life Movement Couldn\u2019t Care Less About the Living,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/authors\/katha-pollitt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">columnist Katha Pollitt<\/a> wrote, \u201cAbortion opponents claim to be advocates for the unborn. But they don\u2019t lift a finger to help families facing hardship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240220140707\/https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/02\/20\/republicans-prenatal-care-pro-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more recent article<\/a>, Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/people\/catherine-rampell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">columnist Catherine Rampell<\/a> wrote, \u201cConservative politicians are sometimes accused of being pro-life up until the point the baby is born. But perhaps even that assessment is too generous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Brown, charges like these are typical but inaccurate. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s always been a pretty easy attack line for the left to say,\u201d Brown told The Federalist in an interview on Thursday. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s true. Now, I think there\u2019s a lot of people who care very strongly about moms and babies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report also acknowledges the work of pro-life charities, religious groups, and pregnancy resource centers, who provided over <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Pregnancy-Center-2024-Update.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$300 million<\/a> worth of support to pregnant mothers and their children in 2022. Brown calls these organizations the \u201cbackbone of the pro-life movement\u201d and insists that state governments are joining in. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in a new era \u2026 it\u2019s time for us to put our money where our mouth is in terms of being pro-life,\u201d Brown said. \u201cI do think that we\u2019re starting to see that at the state level, and we\u2019re gonna continue pushing for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Monroe Harless is a summer intern at The Federalist.
