Notably, House Bill 1329 establishes the Major \u2063John Leroy \u2062Haynes Florida Veterans\u2019 History Program, which will document and maintain \u2062the stories of Florida\u200b veterans for future\u2064 generations. This \u200dinitiative was particularly\u200c influenced by the recognition of the dwindling number of surviving World War II \u200cveterans as the 80th anniversary of D-Day \u2064approached, highlighting the importance of\u200d preserving \u2064their memories and experiences.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ron-desantis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Ron DeSantis<\/a> (R-FL) signed new legislation on Thursday that seeks to preserve the history of Florida veterans and the stories of their service.<\/p>\n<p>House Bill 725 and House Bill 1329 are aimed at improving the lives of U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/veterans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>veterans<\/a> and their families who live in the Sunshine State, with the latter bill creating and funding the Major John Leroy Haynes Florida Veterans\u2019 History Program. This will record the stories of Florida veterans to preserve the tales of their service for years to come, as the governor noted how the 80th anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/d-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>D-Day<\/a> made many realize there are not many surviving veterans from the historic event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe connection to those folks has dwindled because most of them have passed on at this time, so really, it\u2019s up to us to make sure that future generations understand what it means, and I think that this program to record these stories and preserve them, I think is really, really important,\u201d DeSantis said, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Navy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Navy<\/a> veteran himself. \u201cAnd this bill even goes further with that. We are requiring, in the state of Florida, middle and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-education-sec-on-womens-school-sports-we-have-a-legal-responsibility-to-include-transgender-athletes\/\" title=\"Biden Education Sec On Women\u2019s School Sports: We Have a \u2018Legal Responsibility\u2019 to Include Transgender Athletes\">high school students<\/a> to receive instruction on the history of Veterans Day and on the history of Memorial Day, which is good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=80042\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>H.B. 1329<\/a> also provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-advisor-says-getting-covid-19-vaccine-makes-us-all-more-attractive-as-biden-admin-teams-with-dating-apps\/\" title=\"White House Advisor Says Getting COVID-19 Vaccine \u2018Makes Us All More Attractive\u2019 As Biden Admin Teams With Dating Apps\">free hunting licenses<\/a>, as well as freshwater and saltwater <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fishing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>fishing<\/a> licenses, to all disabled veterans, which will go into effect July 1.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=79325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>H.B. 725<\/a>, meanwhile, will expand the eligibility for admissions at a Florida veteran\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-gop-lawmakers-demand-investigation-into-whitmer-over-nursing-homes-too-many-similarities-with-new-york\/\" title=\"Michigan GOP Lawmakers Demand Investigation Into Whitmer Over Nursing Homes: \u2018Too Many Similarities\u2019 With New York\">long-term care facility<\/a> to include the veteran\u2019s spouse and the surviving spouse of qualified veterans. DeSantis argued that this bill is \u201cthe right thing to do\u201d and that it is important to recognize how the spouses of veterans have also served their country.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like H.B. 1329, this bill will go into effect July 1. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, DeSantis signed a bill aimed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>teaching<\/a> Florida students about the \u201cdangers and evils of communism,\u201d including the \u201ccurrent threat\u201d of the ideology in the United States, to prepare students for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/higher-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>higher education<\/a>.
