This\u200b decision comes in contradiction to \u200da recent Title IX rule introduced by President Joe Biden, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-free-lunch-biden-admin-will-pull-meal-funding-for-schools-that-dont-comply-with-its-lgbt-agenda\/\" title=\"No Free Lunch: Biden Admin Will Pull Meal Funding for Schools That Don\u2019t Comply With Its LGBT Agenda\">permits transgender students<\/a> to\u2064 use the restroom aligned \u200bwith their \u200bgender identity. Governor Spencer Cox convened a special session to discuss if the\u200b Utah Constitutional Sovereignty \u200bAct could\u2062 be used to \u200buphold\u2062 state law over this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-congress-enact-major-restrictions-on-constitutionally-protected-second-amendment-rights\/\" title=\"Biden To Congress: Enact Major Restrictions On Constitutionally Protected Second Amendment Rights\">federal rule<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/utah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Utah<\/a> lawmakers voted to abide by a state law requiring students to use the restroom corresponding to their biological sex, ignoring President Joe Biden\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/title-ix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Title IX<\/a> rule that allows transgender students to use the restroom of their choice. <\/p>\n<p>Gov. Spencer Cox (R-UT) called the legislature into a special session on Wednesday to determine if the state would use the Utah Constitutional Sovereignty Act to assert state law over federal law. The legislature passed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/3051537\/utah-fights-title-ix-transgender-regulation-protect-girls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>two resolutions<\/a> affirming the state\u2019s right to bypass the Title IX regulations.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Bonneville Elementary School parents and students gather during a block party supporting trans and nonbinary students and staff on Monday, April 29, 2024, in Salt Lake City. Kera Birkeland said, \u201cIf I\u2019m being completely candid here, we don\u2019t want people using [Title IX] as an excuse to ignore the state laws because they don\u2019t like our state law.\u00a0We want to make it clear that we have a state law that will be enforced in our schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Utah House Democrats slammed the decision. \u201cThe notion that Title IX forces schools to allow males to compete against females or access women\u2019s private spaces denies the identities of transgender youth and is overly simplistic,\u201d they said in a statement. \u201cTransgender youth do not pose a threat to women or girls. They are merely navigating life like all other kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration\u2019s new Title IX regulations, released in April, changed the definition of sex to include gender identity and sexual orientation. The administration\u2019s updated rules come into conflict with the <a href=\"https:\/\/le.utah.gov\/~2024\/bills\/static\/HB0257.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>restroom law<\/a> Utah passed in January, as well as a Utah law that <a href=\"https:\/\/kslnewsradio.com\/2064814\/where-the-law-stands-on-transgender-athletes-competing-in-utah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>restricts biological men<\/a> from competing in women\u2019s sports.
