The term &#8220;cockpit&#8221; is highlighted for its potential derogatory use and historical connotations suggesting\u2062 women do\u2063 not \u200bbelong in the \u2063piloting profession. The intent behind the use of the word is important. \u2026 While the word \u2018cockpit\u2019 dates back to the 1900s, it has been and may be used in a derogatory way to exclude women in the piloting profession. \u2026 Many women have heard a variation of \u2018It is called a cockpit for a reason\u2019 by a male pilot, suggesting that women do not belong in the piloting profession. The intent behind the use of the word is important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The APLA also dislikes using the terms \u201cmother\u201d and \u201cfather\u201d because those \u201cmay inadvertently ignore different family structures,\u201d such as \u201ccaregivers, same-sex parents, stepparents, families with adopted members, and more,\u201d Breitbart noted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The ALPA released a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/pilot-union-suggests-phasing-masculine-terms-says-cockpit-father-offensive-dei-culture\">Fox News<\/a>, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>Flying is the safest mode of transportation in the world thanks in large part to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/walsh-united-offers-passengers-exciting-opportunity-to-die-in-diverse-and-equitable-plane-crash\/\" title=\"WALSH: United Offers Passengers Exciting Opportunity To Die In Diverse And Equitable Plane Crash\">airline pilots<\/a>, professionals that are all held to the highest training and qualification standards.
