This Court has recognized that \u2018religion has been closely identified with our history and government,'\u201d quoting from the 1963 Abington School District v. Schempp.<\/p>\n<p>That Court ruled in that case that mandatory Bible reading in the classroom was unconstitutional, but the justices <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/374\/203\/#:~:text=Public%20schools%20cannot%20sponsor%20Bible,the%20First%20Amendment's%20Establishment%20Clause.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> \u201cit might well be said that one\u2019s education is not complete without a study of comparative religion or the history of religion and its relationship to the advancement of civilization. It certainly may be said that the Bible is worthy of study for its literary and historic qualities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/firstamendment.mtsu.edu\/article\/lemon-test\/#:~:text=The%20test%20was%20often%20applied,compliance%20with%20the%20First%20Amendment.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abandoned<\/a> the Lemon test in the 2022 case Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/21pdf\/21-418_i425.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">determining<\/a> the establishment clause \u201cmust be interpreted by \u2018reference to historical practices and understandings.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>So it appears the Louisiana Ten Commandments display would have a good chance of being ruled constitutional under this guidance.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/arizona-dem-gov-vetoes-bills-posting-ten-commandments-classroom-recognizing-truth-male-female\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">founded on<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/americas-greatest-presidents-christian-nationalists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biblical worldview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">And based on the Bible!<\/p>\n<p>Moses, the Lawgiver, is a statue that is no longer \u201cpolitically correct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moses, holding the two tablets of the Ten Commandments, is the center figure on the East Pediment of the Supreme Court building.<\/p>\n<p>On the wall directly behind the Chief Justice\u2019s\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VwaQrt8lZL\">pic.twitter.com\/VwaQrt8lZL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Linda Marie Lovison (@lilo623) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lilo623\/status\/1691543546640363520?\">August 15, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>At its core is the belief that a just God, as revealed in the Bible, governs over the affairs of this world, and he has established timeless divine laws \u2014 the \u201cLaws of Nature and of Nature\u2019s God\u201d \u2014 that create corresponding inalienable rights, as stated in the Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/constitutioncenter.org\/the-constitution\/historic-document-library\/detail\/william-blackstonecommentaries-on-the-laws-of-england-1765-69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pre-eminent law book<\/a> at the time of the founding, Blackstone\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.laits.utexas.edu\/poltheory\/blackstone\/cle.int.s02.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commentaries on the Law of England<\/a>,\u201d lays all this out well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon these two foundations, the law of nature [established by God and observable in creation] and the law of revelation [found in the Bible, directly revealed by God], depend all human laws; that is to say, no human laws should be suffered to contradict these,\u201d Blackstone wrote.<\/p>\n<p>As I explained in my book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/THESE-TRUTHS-Randall-Norman-DeSoto\/dp\/1604772689\/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&#038;qid=&#038;sr=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We Hold These Truths<\/a>,\u201d the Ten Commandments create the right to life (\u201cYou shall not murder\u201d) and the right to own property (\u201cYou shall not steal\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>The commandment not to covet your neighbor\u2019s house \u201cor anything that is your neighbor\u2019s\u201d is also a recognition of the right to own property and a rebuke to the central tenet of socialism: Use the force of government to spread the wealth around.<\/p>\n<p>Another commandment, \u201cYou shall not bear false witness,\u201d creates the right not to be falsely accused of a crime (which, of course, would result in the loss of one\u2019s life, liberty or property).
