The law stipulates\u200b that by 2025, all classrooms from kindergarten through to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/iowa-bans-critical-race-theory-schools-should-promote-learning-not-discriminatory-indoctrination\/\" title=\"Iowa Bans Critical Race Theory: Schools Should \u2018Promote Learning, Not Discriminatory Indoctrination\u2019\">state-funded universities<\/a> must \u2064showcase a poster-sized\u2062 display of the Ten Commandments. Accompanying these posters, there will be a\u2064 contextual statement spanning \u2064four paragraphs, detailing the historical significance \u2064of \u200bthe Ten Commandments in American public education\u200d over nearly\u2063 three centuries. Although \u200bGovernor Landry did not give final\u200c approval\u200b to the\u2062 bill, the deadline\u2062 for his decision has elapsed. Notably, the funding\u200b for these posters will be sourced through donations and not state funds. \u200dAdditionally, the law permits but does not require the display of the Mayflower Compact and other historical documents along with the Ten Commandments.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2991070\/louisiana-governor-mick-jagger-jab-stone-age\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Jeff Landry<\/a> (R-LA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maine-governor-poised-to-sign-bill-allowing-elective-abortions-up-until-birth\/\" title=\"Maine Governor set to approve bill permitting abortions at any stage\">enacted legislation requiring<\/a> the display of the Ten Commandments in every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/public-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>public school<\/a> classroom, making <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/louisiana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Louisiana<\/a> the first state to implement such a requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Under this legislation, all classrooms from kindergarten to state-funded universities are required to have a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in classrooms by the start of 2025. <\/p>\n<p>These posters will also have a four-paragraph \u201ccontext statement\u201d describing how the Ten Commandments \u201cwere a prominent part of American public <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>education<\/a> for almost three centuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the bill not securing final approval from Landry, the period for gubernatorial action on whether to sign or veto the legislation has passed.<\/p>\n<p>The posters would be funded via donations rather than state funds, according to the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>While not mandatory, the law also \u201cauthorizes\u201d the display of the Mayflower Compact, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/declaration-of-independence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Declaration of Independence<\/a>, and the Northwest Ordinance in K-12 public schools.<\/p>\n<p>Proponents argue this measure is not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/38-chaplains-ask-supreme-court-to-stop-u-s-military-from-punishing-their-faith\/\" title=\"38 chaplains request the Supreme Court to prevent the U.S. military from penalizing their religious beliefs\">solely religious<\/a>, but rather it also has historical significance because these are \u201cfoundational documents of our state and national government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, opponents question the law\u2019s constitutionality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Given the threat of legal disputes, states such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Texas<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oklahoma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Oklahoma<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/utah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Utah<\/a>, which have proposed similar bills, have failed to enact them into law.<\/p>\n<p>In 1980, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Supreme Court<\/a> declared a similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kentucky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Kentucky<\/a> law unconstitutional, ruling it violated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/first-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>First Amendment<\/a> of the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Constitution<\/a>, which says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congress<\/a> can \u201cmake no law respecting an establishment of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/religion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>religion<\/a>.\u201d It was determined the law lacked a secular purpose and served solely religious interests.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
