For instance, \u201cAq Meschit\u201d (White Mosque) was changed to \u200cUnity Village, and \u201cDutar\u201d (name of a traditional musical instrument) to Red Flag\u2064 Village. \u2063Names that suggest Islamic\u2063 heritage like \u201cMazar\u201d (Shrine) and \u201cMeschit\u201d (Mosque) have become increasingly rare, and names like \u201cKhalifa\u201d and \u201cXelpe\u201d\u200b (both\u2062 meaning ruler) have been eradicated altogether. This renaming initiative is part of China\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pressure-grows-on-biden-to-act-on-crisis-in-tibet\/\" title=\"Pressure Grows on Biden to Act on Crisis in Tibet\">broader efforts<\/a> to assimilate the Uyghur population and erase their cultural and religious identity, which \u2064has led international human rights groups to accuse Beijing of\u200d committing crimes against humanity. Moreover, this act continues despite Xinjiang\u2019s status as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blinken-rebukes-china-for-human-rights-abuses-in-call-with-chinese-diplomat\/\" title=\"Blinken Rebukes China for Human Rights Abuses in Call with Chinese Diplomat\">autonomous region<\/a>, a condition that has not offered genuine sovereignty or protection from cultural suppression by the Chinese \u2063government. The Uyghurs, who are predominantly Muslim and culturally Turkic, have faced severe\u200c persecution and \u200bmeasures \u2062aimed at assimilating them, with the Chinese government frequently\u200c correlating their heritage to terrorism.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>People\u2019s Republic of China<\/a> has erased a number of village names that are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">culturally significant<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/uyghurs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Uyghur<\/a> people, replacing them with communist language, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2024\/06\/18\/china-hundreds-uyghur-village-names-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>report<\/a> from the Human Rights Watch.<\/p>\n<p>The names of about 630 villages in the province of Xinjiang have been stripped of any references to Islam or uniquely Uyghur culture. Instead they have been secularized into Mandarin and replaced with terminology that is ideologically consistent with the PRC. <\/p>\n<p>For example, the <em>Aq Meschit<\/em> Village, meaning \u201cwhite mosque,\u201d has been diluted into the new Unity Village. Similarly, the village of <em>Dutar<\/em>, derived from a cherished musical instrument in Uyghur culture, has been renamed to Red Flag Village. Following this pattern, common village names such as <em>Mazar<\/em> (Shrine) and <em>Meschit<\/em> (Mosque) have grown increasingly few. <em>Khalifa<\/em> and <em>Xelpe<\/em>, two once abundant designations that both mean \u201cruler,\u201d have been completely eradicated.<\/p>\n<p>Described as \u201cpart of a broader government effort to erase Uyghur Culture in Xinjiang,\u201d groups such as the Human Rights Watch and Norway\u2019s Uyghur Hjelp, have accused the Chinese government of committing crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A History of Persecution<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Uyghur People make up a majority of the population in the Chinese region of Xinjiang. Culturally Turkic, the Uyghurs have been a majority muslim people since the 10th century. Xinjiang, similar to Tibet, is considered an \u201cautonomous region\u201d meaning that it has the ability to implement self-governing legislation. Despite this apparent sovereignty, Xinjiang is hardly free from the overarching Chinese government. In the last 20 years, the People\u2019s Republic of China has tried to squash Uyghur culture, implementing assimilation programs and often associating their culture with terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>For decades the Uyghurs have sought a more permanent and official separation from Beijing. In retaliation, the PRC has sent flocks of Han (Chinese) settlers into Xinjiang, hoping to suppress the Uyghur population. (AP Photo\/Ng Han Guan, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2014, the Chinese government launched the \u201cStrike Hard Campaign against Violent Terrorism\u201d program against the Uyghur and other Turkic Muslims. Arbitrarily dragged to jails or internment camps in the name of reeducation, millions have been spoon fed communist rhetoric and forced to suppress their traditional values. In many areas, growing beards and reading the Qur\u2019an has been criminalized, with others being barred from overseas travel.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The latest imposition of communist ideology in village names is only a small peace in the history of alleged mistreatment against the Uyghur people.
