This proposal aims to add the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-bidens-new-atf-nominee\/\" title=\"Here\u2019s What You Need To Know About Biden\u2019s New ATF Nominee\">popular semi-automatic rifle<\/a>\u200c to Michigan\u2019s\u2062 list of state symbols. The initiative has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fellow-country-star-and-jason-aldean-pal-says-try-that-in-a-small-town-is-just-bad-songwriting\/\" title=\"Country star and Jason Aldean's friend criticizes 'Try That in a Small Town' as 'poorly written.'\">caused\u200c controversy<\/a>, particularly \u200damong\u2063 Democrats and some residents who find the move insensitive, especially \u2064in light of recent\u200b mass \u200cshootings at Michigan State and Oxford. Democratic state \u2062Representative Christine Morse criticized the proposal, calling it sad\u200c and embarrassing for the state.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>In addition to state flowers, birds, and other animals, a group of 12 Republican lawmakers in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Michigan<\/a> have proposed another state symbol for the Great Lakes state: A gun. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michigan-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Michigan House<\/a> Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MI\/sponsors\/HB5792\/2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>sponsored a bill <\/a>that would designate the AR-15, a popular semi-automatic rifle, as the state\u2019s gun and add it to Michigan\u2019s list of state symbols. The move has upset some Michiganders and state Democrats, who view the decision as unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering we had the mass shootings at Michigan State and Oxford in the past couple of years. Christine Morse <a href=\"https:\/\/wwmt.com\/news\/local\/michigan-lawmakers-ar-15-as-states-firearm-controversy-tyron-sims-william-adams-gun-mass-shooting-cristine-morse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republican state Rep. Brian BeGole, the bill\u2019s sponsor, disagreed saying, \u201cMore and more often, AR-15 owners are ostracized and criticized for their perfectly reasonable and legal decisions to possess a firearm. That\u2019s just not right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ten other states have a gun included in their list of state symbols, with Missouri <a href=\"https:\/\/fox2now.com\/news\/missouri\/missouri-adds-the-hawken-rifle-as-a-state-symbol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>most recently<\/a> adding the Hawken Rifle alongside the Eastern bluebird and hawthorn blossom. Michigan, however, would be the first state to have an AR-15 as its state gun. Other states usually pick their state gun based on its history with the state, but the AR-15 has no direct ties to Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMichigan was the arsenal of democracy in WWII, so we probably made a lot of different guns and cannons, so maybe we should pick one of those,\u201d one Michigan resident, William Adams, who served in the Navy, told <a href=\"https:\/\/wwmt.com\/news\/local\/michigan-lawmakers-ar-15-as-states-firearm-controversy-tyron-sims-william-adams-gun-mass-shooting-cristine-morse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CBS 3 News<\/a>. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-democrats-who-may-have-profited-from-the-russia-ukraine-war\/\" title=\"The Democrats Who May Have Profited From the Russia-Ukraine War\">noted lawmakers<\/a> should focus on more pressing matters in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The bill is unlikely to move forward with Democrats in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2969530\/michigan-democrats-regain-full-control-of-state-government-for-first-time-in-40-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>complete control<\/a> of Michigan\u2019s government. The bill was filed on June 7, which Gov.
