Despite the Republican Party&#8217;s attempts to remove him from the\u2063 ballot, McClanahan has managed to \u200dsecure a spot as the first candidate listed for the GOP primary. Efforts to exclude him intensified after his white supremacist \u2062affiliations became widely known through his 2022 lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League and his participation in the 2017 Charlottesville protest. Recent public scrutiny increased when photos of McClanahan posing with Klan members and performing a Nazi salute surfaced online. Nevertheless, on May 17, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/right-to-abortion-comes-from-fight-against-slavery-cnn-legal-expert\/\" title=\"\u2018Right\u2019 To Abortion Comes From Fight Against Slavery: CNN Legal \u2018Expert\u2019\">legal ruling<\/a>\u2062 by Cole County Circuit Judge Cotton Walker confirmed that McClanahan would remain on the primary ballot, following unsuccessful last-minute appeals by party \u200brepresentatives to reverse this decision.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Among the nine Republican candidates running for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/missouri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> Missouri <\/a>governor, an \u201chonorary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ku-klux-klan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Ku Klux Klan<\/a>\u201d member will be on the primary ballot, despite the best efforts of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> GOP<\/a> to remove him.<\/p>\n<p>On his campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darrell4gov.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>website<\/a>, Darrell Leon McClanahan III claims to be \u201cthe Conservative voice for Governor of Missouri.\u201d He will be the first candidate to be listed on the GOP\u2019s ballot. <\/p>\n<p>The party\u2019s lawyer, Lowell Pearson, made a last-ditch effort to remove him from the primary ballot by filing on Monday a notice of appeal to a previous decision that allowed him to remain. However, McClanahan\u2019s lawyer says it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n<p>McClanahan\u2019s white supremacist beliefs have been out in the open since at least 2022, when he filed a lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League in which he claimed to only be \u201can honorary Ku Klux Klan\u201d member. He had also attended the 2017 Charlottesville \u201cUnite the Right\u201d protest.<\/p>\n<p>After filing for the governor\u2019s race in February, photos of McClanahan surfaced online. Former Missouri state Rep. Shamed Dogan shared the photos <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShamedDoganMO\/status\/1762991729362264352\/photo\/1\">to X<\/a>, which showed McClanahan making the Nazi salute with a Klan member in front of a burning cross and posing with Knight Party leaders.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The GOP party moved immediately to remove McClanahan\u2019s name from the ballot, but on May 17, Cole County Circuit Judge Cotton Walker ruled that Darrell McClanahan III would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.mo.gov\/fv\/c\/Judgment_FINAL.pdf?courtCode=19&#038;di=3167655\">remain on the ballot<\/a> for the GOP nomination for governor. <\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to the Missouri Republican Party for comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is literally no way that their appeal could succeed,\u201d Roland said in an interview with the<a href=\"https:\/\/missouriindependent.com\/2024\/06\/18\/missouri-gop-files-appeal-in-hopes-of-striking-honorary-kkk-member-from-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> <em>Missouri Independent<\/em><\/a>. \u201cThey were only asking for one thing in their petition, and that was an injunction to prevent his name from being certified for the ballot. That ship sailed back in May when the secretary of state did exactly what the law required him to do, certifying the name for the ballot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On June 11, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft certified the list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-rep-adam-kinzinger-backs-democrats-in-key-races\/\" title=\"Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger Backs Democrats In Key Races\">state candidates<\/a> and issues on the ballot and <a href=\"https:\/\/revisor.mo.gov\/main\/OneSection.aspx?section=115.125&#038;bid=35761&#038;hl=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-rules-ca-gov-overstepped-his-authority-with-covid-order-issues-permanent-injunction-restraining-newsom-from-further-issuing-unconstitutional-orders\/\" title=\"Judge Rules CA Gov Overstepped His Authority with Covid Order, Issues Permanent Injunction Restraining Newsom From Further Issuing Unconstitutional Orders\">state law<\/a><\/a> the courts cannot \u201corder an individual or issue be placed on the ballot less than eight weeks before the date of the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker wrote that since the party had accepted McClanahan\u2019s $500 fee, he would remain on the ballot. McClanahan was also a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in 2022, and Walker says his views were known.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Republican Party \u201cis a sophisticated entity and the record shows that it was not only aware of a party\u2019s authority to reject a filing fee offered by a candidate,\u201d Walker wrote, \u201cbut that segments of the Missouri Republican Party have already adopted a policy of rejecting filing fees from any candidate who has not completed a prescribed vetting process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unlikely that the court will rule on the GOP\u2019s appeal before the primary.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Among the nine GOP candidates for Missouri governor, Darrell Leon McClanahan III, who claims to be an \u201chonorary Ku Klux Klan\u201d member, will appear on the primary ballot.
