This claim was found\u200c to be false. The misinformation appears to\u200b originate from \u200da Washington\u2064 Post article regarding the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), used for\u2063 military recruitment. Trump refuted the claim in a post on TRUTH Social \u2064on June 11. Further, the article speculated on \u2063former Acting Secretary of Defense \u2062Christopher Miller&#8217;s plans for ASVAB if Trump were \u2062re-elected, but there was no direct link to Trump mandating \u200cmilitary service. The claim appears to stem from a Washington Post article discussing the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), a standardized test developed by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for military recruitment.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Trump met with Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson on June 17 at his Mar-a-Lago residence, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/house-speaker-mike-johnson-donald-trump-meet-mar-a-lago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS News<\/a>. Johnson confirmed the meeting in a post shared via his verified X account, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Threads post, which has garnered over 300 likes as of writing, claims Trump purportedly said he would require a minimum of two years of military service for all American citizens over the age of 18. The post does not provide a source to support its claim.<\/p>\n<p>The claim is false, however, and appears to stem from a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/UTEwM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 11 Washington Post article<\/a> discussing the ASVAB, a standardized test developed by the U.S. DOD for military recruitment.<\/p>\n<p>The article claims Christopher Miller, the former Acting Secretary of Defense from November 2020 to January 2021 has a \u201cdetailed plan\u201d for the ASVAB if Trump is re-elected as president. Trump praised Miller during his administration and Miller might \u201creprise his role as defense secretary\u201d if Trump is re-elected, also according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Trump denied the article\u2019s claim via a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/112598565438227864\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TRUTH Social post<\/a> shared on the same day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fake News Washington Post came up with the ridiculous idea that Donald J. Trump will call for Mandatory Military Service. This is only a continuation of their EIGHT YEAR failed attempt to damage me with the Voters. The Story is completely untrue. In fact, I never even thought of that idea. Only a degenerate former Newspaper, which has lost 50% of its Readers, would fabricate such a tale. Just another Fake Story, one of many, made up by the DEAD Washington Compost!,\u201d Trump wrote. A Trump spokesperson directed Check Your Fact to the TRUTH Social post when asked to comment on the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/fact-check\/no-evidence-trump-said-he-will-require-mandatory-military-service-2024-06-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a> also reported the claim made via the Threads post was false on June 17. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2024\/06\/17\/fact-check-no-a-fourth-juror-from-trumps-trial-was-not-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: No, A Fourth Juror From Trump\u2019s Trial Was Not Arrested)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s explicit denial of the claim prompted the Washington Post to update its article to include his statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Tuesday, after publication of this report, Trump wrote on social media that the idea he would call for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ufc-star-dedicates-win-to-victims-of-communism-this-fight-is-for-all-the-people-whove-been-hurt-by-marxists-ideologies\/\" title=\"UFC Star Dedicates Win To Victims Of Communism: \u2018This Fight Is For All The People Who\u2019ve Been Hurt By Marxists Ideologies\u2019\">mandatory military service<\/a> was \u2018ridiculous\u2019 and attacked The Washington Post for what he said was a \u2018failed attempt to damage me with the Voters,&#8217;\u201d the outlet indicated via the same June 11 article.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Threads, the claim about Trump and purported mandatory military service <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/FACTCHECK-USA-TRUMP-MILITARY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also circulated on Facebook<\/a>, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Threads post alleged that Donald Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican nominee, would mandate two years of military service for Americans over 18.
