Douglas Golden<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 19, 2024 at 5:57am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Could Steve Bannon and other top advisers to former President Donald Trump be saved from frivolous prison sentences over refusing to testify before the Democrats\u2019 kangaroo committee on the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol incursion?<\/p>\n<p>If one House GOP resolution succeeds, it might be a reality.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-house-gop-moves-to-reverse-j6-committee-subpoena-against-trump-advisors-days-before-steve-bannon-is-set-to-report-to-prison?utm_campaign=64501\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Post Millennial<\/a>, several top Republicans \u2014 led by Reps. Eric Burlison of Missouri and Thomas Massie of Kentucky \u2014 have introduced a resolution that would rescind the subpoenas issued by the committee to Bannon, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, economic adviser Peter Navarro and deputy communications chief of staff and adviser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-holds-another-massive-rally-liberal-state-turn-tables-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan Scavino<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/743189385\/Rep-Eric-Burlison-Resolution#from_embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resolution<\/a>, introduced Tuesday, came just before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-donald-trumps-former-chief-strategist-steve-bannon-going-jail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bannon<\/a> begins serving a four-month sentence for defying the subpoena on July 1. The logic is simple: no subpoena, no contempt of Congress, no crime, no jail time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is past time for the House of Representatives to take action to begin undoing the harm that was caused by the illegitimate January 6th Committee,\u201d Burlison said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/burlison.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-burlison-introduces-resolution-rescind-subpoenas-stephen-k-bannon-mark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the right thing to do, and I hope all members of the House will join me in this effort,\u201d the congressman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee was nothing more than a political witch hunt to blame President Trump and his advisors for the events that took place on January 6, 2021, and influence the 2022 mid-term elections and 2024 presidential election,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee was legally deficient in its composition and was more focused on producing made-for-TV hearings than following House rules,\u201d Burlison said. \u201cThe subpoenas that were issued were legally insufficient and should be rescinded, and the contempt of Congress referrals based on those subpoenas should be withdrawn. This is the right thing to do, and I hope all members of the House will join me in this effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the same news release, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/thomas-massie-blasts-2024-presidential-hopeful-brunette-liz-cheney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massie<\/a> said that an official vote on the resolution would be \u201can effective and needed repudiation of the sham January 6th committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should all nonviolent citizens jailed for their participation in Jan. 6 be released and issued an official apology?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The official text of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/four-dangerous-new-democrat-bills-that-you-probably-havent-heard-of\/\" title=\"Four Dangerous New Democrat Bills That You Probably Haven\u2019t Heard Of\">resolution states<\/a> that \u201cit is the sense of the House of Representatives that the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol was illegitimate, that the conclusions and findings presented were predetermined due to the committee\u2019s partisan nature, and that the courts should set aside any convictions or commute any sentences stemming from contempt reports issued by the Select Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the resolution would move to rescind \u201cthe subpoenas issued by the January 6th Select Committee on September 23, 2021, October 6, 2021, and February 9, 2022, and withdrawing the recommendations finding Stephen K. Bannon, Mark Randall Meadows, Daniel Scavino, Jr., and Peter K. Navarro in contempt of Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgia GOP Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-mtg-flips-script-reporter-calls-trump-convicted-felon-tense-exchange-george-floyd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marjorie Taylor Greene<\/a>, a co-sponsor of the resolution, said she \u201cfully support[s] and am co-sponsoring Rep. Thomas Massie\u2019s resolution to rescind the subpoenas for Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro by repudiating Nancy Pelosi\u2019s illegitimate J6 committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNancy Pelosi violated House rules by refusing to accept McCarthy\u2019s appointed Republicans on the committee. Now, our Republican-led House must nullify any actions taken by the illegitimate J6 committee,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must also hold the J6 Committee members accountable for the destruction of the committee\u2019s records. House Republicans need to start taking action!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution is also co-sponsored by GOP Reps. Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar of Arizona, Lauren Bobert of Colorado, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Jim Banks of Indiana, Chip Roy of Texas and Bob Good of Virginia, among others.<\/p>\n<p>While the move is a step in the right direction, it\u2019s unknown whether it\u2019ll go anywhere \u2014 and it does nothing to remedy the overcharging of those who entered the Capitol during the Jan. 6 incursion.<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, nonviolent individuals have received \u201cterrorism enhancements\u201d to their charges \u2014 including, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2024\/06\/13\/exclusive-brent-bozell-they-tried-charge-my-son-terrorism-enhancement-january-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Breitbart<\/a>, the son of Brent Bozell III, founder of the conservative Media Research Center.<\/p>\n<p>While there were a minority of dangerous individuals in the Capitol that day, most were simply protesters-turned-chaos-tourists who posed no danger to person, property or democracy.<\/p>\n<p>That hasn\u2019t stopped the Democrats from treating them as if they were just a few steps removed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/david-harsanyi-media-didnt-want-report-capital-punishment-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Timothy McVeigh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This resolution is a fantastic start. However, instead of just focusing on the high-profile defendants, House Republicans need to start holding Democrats and a rigged system accountable for draconian, politically motivated charges and punishments.<\/p>\n<p>Then, maybe it\u2019s time we start holding Merrick Garland and President Joe Biden\u2019s other cronies accountable, as well.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
