Rogers expressed his gratitude towards Moolenaar for his support\u2062 and acknowledged his significant role in Michigan.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The chairman of the House\u2019s select committee on <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>China<\/a> endorsed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-rogers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mike Rogers<\/a> in Michigan\u2019s GOP primary for <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Senate<\/a> on Wednesday, the latest endorsement for the former lawmaker as he looks to flip the seat held by retiring Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/debbie-stabenow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Debbie Stabenow<\/a> (D-MI).<\/p>\n<p>Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI), a Michigan lawmaker who recently assumed the chairmanship from former Rep. Mike Gallagher, called Rogers a \u201cstrong conservative\u201d who would confront China, citing his career in law enforcement and years spent in the House representing Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers, who chaired the House Intelligence Committee, retired from Congress in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need a candidate who will get the job done, and I can think of no better person for the job than Mike Rogers,\u201d Moolenaar said in a statement. \u201cMike has a long and respected record of serving our nation and fighting for Michigan, holding China and our enemies accountable, and delivering real results for families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogers thanked Moolenaar for being a \u201cstrong champion\u201d for Michigan and for his endorsement in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m humbled to receive the endorsement of Congressman John Moolenaar, a fierce advocate for our state in Congress and a leader on taking on China,\u201d Rogers said. \u201cHe\u2019s shed a critical light on the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s economic aggression and efforts to buy U.S. farmland. I look forward to continuing our work together to help bring a brighter, more prosperous future for Michigan families and to Get America Back on Track.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moolenaar joins a growing list of endorsements for Rogers, including former President Donald Trump and the head of Senate Republicans\u2019 campaign arm, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT).<\/p>\n<p>Rogers is the leading Republican in the primary but will face businessman Sandy Pensler and former GOP congressman-turned-libertarian Justin Amash on Aug. 6. <\/p>\n<p>Whoever wins the primary is expected to face Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) in the general election. Rogers is behind but within the margin of error of Slotkin, according to recent polls. An April poll from Emerson College\/the <em>Hill<\/em>\/Nexstar found Slotkin with 42% to Rogers\u2019s 40%. The race is competitive but rated \u201clean Democrat\u201d by the nonpartisan <em>Cook Political Report.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rogers has cast himself as a China hawk since launching his run for Senate in September, relying on his four years spent as Intelligence Committee chairman.
