Colangelo, who had significant roles in both the Trump Organization\u2019s civil fraud case and later \u2064in a &#8220;hush money&#8221; \u200ccase against Trump, is perceived by\u200b Jordan as a\u2062 symbol of political bias in legal \u2064actions against Trump. Jordan\u2019s requests aim to investigate potential political influences in prosecutions involving former \u200cPresidents,\u200c emphasizing the\u2063 impacts such actions could have on presidential\u200d powers. Jordan \u200dset a new compliance deadline for James, warning of a compulsory subpoena if ignored. The \u2064document requests are part of\u2064 broader\u2063 concerns about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-vows-investigation-into-manhattan-da-ahead-of-expected-trump-indictment\/\" title=\"McCarthy vows investigation into Manhattan DA ahead of expected Trump indictment\">politically motivated prosecutions<\/a>\u200d and aim to ensure \u200dfairness in legal proceedings against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/as-republican-julia-letlow-is-sworn-in-the-democrats-margin-in-the-house-shrinks-to-just-2-votes\/\" title=\"As Republican Julia Letlow Is Sworn In, The Democrats\u2019 Margin In The House Shrinks To Just 2 Votes\">prominent political figures<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/randydesoto\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/randydesoto\/%20\"><span>Randy DeSoto<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 18, 2024 at 5:48pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio threatened to subpoena New York Attorney General Letitia James on Tuesday for failing to comply with providing information his committee seeks regarding the top prosecutor in former President Donald Trump\u2019s Manhattan criminal case.<\/p>\n<p>On May 15, Jordan <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/JDJ%20to%20AG%20Letitia%20James%20re%20Colangelo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had written<\/a> James seeking correspondence and other information regarding Matthew Colangelo, who previously worked in her office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Colangelo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prosecutor-was-paid-by-democratic-national-committee-for-political-consulting-before-taking-on-trump-trial-report\/\" title=\"Report: Prosecutor Received Payment from Democratic National Committee for 'Political Consulting' Prior to Trump Trial\">recent employment history demonstrates<\/a> his obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime,\u201d Jordan recounted. He has sent letters to all his recent employers, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/4727586-jim-jordan-threatens-ny-ag-subpoena-hush-money-prosecutor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While employed by James during the latter end of the Trump administration, Colangelo was involved with her office\u2019s probe into the Trump Organization. That investigation became the basis of the attorney general\u2019s civil fraud case against the former president, The Hill said.<\/p>\n<p>A Manhattan judge ultimately found Trump guilty in February and directed he pay over $450 million to the state of New York. The case is currently on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-hands-trump-major-victory-letitia-james-bond-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following his stint in James\u2019 office, Colangelo went to work for the Biden Department of Justice for two years becoming the agency\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/JDJ%20to%20AG%20Letitia%20James%20re%20Colangelo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third highest ranking<\/a> official.<\/p>\n<p>He then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-biden-wh-inserted-prosecutor-new-york-case-execute-political-hit-job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">left<\/a> the DOJ in December 2022 to become the lead prosecutor in Bragg\u2019s \u201chush money\u201d case against Trump, a case which that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/28\/trump-lawyer-manhattan-da-wont-charge-496768\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">office<\/a>, the DOJ, and the Federal Election Commission had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-right-scotus-step-stop-interference-new-york-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declined<\/a> to prosecute.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, a New York jury found Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-right-scotus-step-stop-interference-new-york-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guilty<\/a> of falsifying business records in relation to a payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and others as part of non-disclosure agreements prior to the 2016 general election. Trump also plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/legal-expert-jonathan-turley-provides-ray-hope-trump-guilty-verdict-case-will-reversed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeal<\/a> that verdict.<\/p>\n<p>In his May 15 letter, Jordan noted the fact that Colangelo\u2019s targeting of \u201cPresident Biden\u2019s chief political rival only adds to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Has Letitia James treated Trump unfairly?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Accordingly, the Judiciary chair requested documents and communications between Colangelo and the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s office, the New York attorney general\u2019s office, the DOJ and the Fulton County district attorney\u2019s office referencing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-biden-wh-inserted-prosecutor-new-york-case-execute-political-hit-job\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> and the Trump Organization.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan also wants, \u201cAll personnel files related to Mr. Colangelo\u2019s hiring, employment, and termination at the New York Attorney General\u2019s Office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker set a deadline of May 29.<\/p>\n<p>Having not heard back from James by the deadline, the lawmaker sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2024-06-18%20JDJ%20to%20James%20re%20Colangelo.pdf?_gl=1*1t5i63n*_ga*MTY2MjQ5OTg0OS4xNjg4NTg4MDM1*_ga_1818ZEQW81*MTcxODczNjM4NC4xLjEuMTcxODczNjQxMy4wLjAuMA..\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">follow up letter<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In it Jordan wrote, \u201cCongress has a specific and manifestly important interest in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-subpoena-alvin-braggs-former-deputy-in-major-escalation-of-trump-prosecution-probe\/\" title=\"House Republicans Subpoena Alvin Bragg's Former Deputy in Major Escalation of Trump Prosecution Probe\">preventing politically motivated prosecutions<\/a> of current and former Presidents by elected state and local prosecutors, particularly in jurisdictions \u2014 like New York County \u2014 where the prosecutor is popularly elected and trial-level judges lack life tenure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong other things, if state or local prosecutors are able to engage in politically motivated prosecutions of Presidents of the United States (current or former) for personal acts, this could have a profound impact on how Presidents choose to exercise their powers while in office,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan set a new deadline of July 2 for James and threatened to issue a subpoena if she does not comply.<\/p>\n<p>He closed, \u201cThe Committee is prepared to resort to compulsory process to obtain compliance with our requests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hill reported that Bragg and Colangelo are scheduled to testify before the Judiciary Committee on July 12, a day after Trump\u2019s sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
