While the gag order is\u2063 in \u200cplace\u200b to prevent \u200dTrump from potentially influencing opinions about the jurors, witnesses, and the judge\u2019s family, he argues that it infringes upon his First\u2063 Amendment rights.\u2062 After lower courts denied Trump\u2019s initial requests to lift \u200dthe gag order, the \u200dNew \u2064York Court of Appeals also dismissed the appeal, \u200bleaving Trump a 30-day period to file \u2064for a possible \u2063review. Meanwhile, Trump&#8217;s conviction remains related to charges for falsifying business records in an alleged scheme involving payments to Stormy Daniels during the\u2062 2016 election campaign, with sentencing planned for July.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The highest court in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York<\/a> declined to quickly consider former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s appeal of a gag order after his felony conviction last month and before a debate next week.<\/p>\n<p>A list of decisions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/ctapps\/Decisions\/2024\/Jun24\/DecisionList061824.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> on Tuesday said the New York Court of Appeals dismissed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/a-third-world-authoritarian-tactic-trump-turns-to-top-new-york-court-to-appeal-gag-order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the appeal<\/a> \u201cupon the ground that no substantial constitutional question is directly raised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, court spokesman Gary Spencer said Trump has a 30-day window to file a motion for leave to appeal, which could lead to the high court eventually taking up the matter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/18\/politics\/trump-gag-order-new-york-appeal\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding Judge Juan Merchan barred Trump from commenting publicly on jurors, witnesses, and the judge\u2019s family, but not the judge himself or Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.<\/p>\n<p>Trump faced thousands of dollars in fines and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/judge-finds-trump-violated-gag-order-threatens-jail-rcna150560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a threat of jail time<\/a> for speaking out in violation of the gag order that he claimed had infringed upon his First Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pennsylvania-court-overturns-bill-cosby-sex-assault-conviction-actor-to-leave-prison\/\" title=\"Pennsylvania Court Overturns Bill Cosby Sex Assault Conviction, Actor To Leave Prison\">lower appeals court<\/a> already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/appeals-court-denies-trumps-gag-order-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shot down<\/a> a defense request to lift the order.
