Anderson Lee Aldrich admitted guilt to 74\u2064 federal charges encompassing hate crime and gun laws as part \u2063of an\u2063 agreement to escape the death\u200b penalty. \u200bThis 24-year-old had already been sentenced to five life sentences\u2064 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gunman-in-ahmaud-arbery-killing-gets-second-life-sentence\/\" title=\"Gunman in Ahmaud Arbery killing gets second life sentence\">state murder charges<\/a> and pleaded no contest to state\u200b hate crime charges last year. The \u200bprosecutors claimed that his attack on Club Q, a gay and lesbian nightclub in a typically \u200cconservative part of Colorado, was driven by an\u2062 anti-LGBT bias.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The shooter who killed five people and injured 19 more at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/colorado\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Colorado<\/a> Springs nightclub in 2022 was sentenced to 55 life sentences and another 190-year sentence without the possibility of parole.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson Lee Aldrich <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-to-pardon-gen-michael-flynn-per-report\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump to Pardon Gen. Michael Flynn, Per Report\">pleaded guilty<\/a> to 74 federal hate crime and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-releases-violent-offenders-who-then-commit-more-violence\/\" title=\"New York Releases Violent Offenders Who Then Commit More Violence\">gun charges<\/a> on Tuesday as part of a plea deal that allowed him to avoid the death penalty. The 24-year-old is already serving five life sentences for state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>murder<\/a> charges he pleaded guilty to last June, but he pleaded no contest last year to state hate crime charges.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors argued that Aldrich\u2019s attack on Club Q, a gay and lesbian nightclub in a conservative area of Colorado, was motivated by anti-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lgbt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>LGBT<\/a> bias.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe admission that these were hate crimes is important to the government, and it\u2019s important to the community of Club Q,\u201d prosecutor Alison Connaughty said.<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorneys in the state case, who said Aldrich is nonbinary and uses they\/them pronouns, argued that Aldrich was high on cocaine and medication at the time of the shooting, the <em>Associated Press<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/colorado-springs-lgbtq-bar-shooting-028344ddb7666033311dc67a064fef9f\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>During a phone call with the AP last year, Aldrich did not give a direct answer when asked if the shooting was motivated by hate, but said that the idea was \u201ccompletely off base.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney waited until she had heard from anyone who wanted to speak at the sentencing hearing before deciding whether to accept the plea agreement, telling the people in attendance that \u201cwe can go till tomorrow if you want,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2024\/06\/18\/club-q-shooting-anderson-aldrich\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according to<\/a> the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Aldrich visited Club Q at least eight times before the shooting on Nov. 19, 2022, the <em>Associated Press<\/em> reported. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant was able to level everyone,\u201d Connaughty said. \u201cThere were 60 rounds fired in less than 60 seconds. The defendant emptied the magazine.
