Parks \u200bhad written letters to both \u2063the executive director of the Oregon Student Activities Association and a state senator, arguing that the current Oregon \u200blaw, which allows\u2064 trans-identifying\u200d biological males to compete with female athletes, \u200cis detrimental to girls&#8217;\u200b sports. He proposed creating an open division for trans-identifying athletes to foster fairness and inclusive participation without discrimination. Parks expressed concern\u200b for the well-being of trans-identifying athletes as well, citing instances of negative crowd reactions at competitions. His employment was confirmed to be ended by the school district&#8217;s communications director, who did not provide specific reasons for his termination.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>An Oregon high school track coach claimed the school district terminated his contract because he pushed for the state to change the laws around trans-identifying athletes.<\/p>\n<p>John Parks, head track and field coach at Lake Oswego High School just south of Portland, <a href=\"https:\/\/katu.com\/news\/local\/lake-oswego-coach-says-district-ousted-him-after-pushed-change-in-transgender-athlete-law-osaa-track-field-peter-weber-john-parks-rob-wagner-mary-kay-larson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> a pair of letters to the executive director of the Oregon Student Activities Association and a state senator.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lake Oswego high school track &#038; field coach was terminated after demanding fair competition for his female athletes.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s taken his team to the state championship 3 years in a row.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is his stance was way too reasonable, so they ousted him.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qYLfHwZ9Y1\">https:\/\/t.co\/qYLfHwZ9Y1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Riley Gaines (@Riley_Gaines_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Riley_Gaines_\/status\/1803107581361025164?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In his letters, which were written before and after the state championships in May, Parks argued that Oregon law, which currently allows trans-identifying biological males to compete with female athletes, is harming girls\u2019 sports.<\/p>\n<p>Parks called for student sports in Oregon to follow the lead of other sports organizations like the International Olympic Committee that require hormone testing for trans-identifying athletes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy proposal to encourage transgender participation is to offer an open division that is so named so it doesn\u2019t identify or discriminate but offers an opportunity to participate,\u201d Parks wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Parks said that part of his concern is for trans-identifying athletes themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want them to be able to participate where they\u2019re not booed,\u201d Parks told KATU, adding that he saw the crowd boo a trans-identifying athlete who won a girls\u2019 event at the state championships.<\/p>\n<p>The Lake Oswego School District\u2019s communications director <a href=\"https:\/\/katu.com\/news\/local\/lake-oswego-coach-says-district-ousted-him-after-pushed-change-in-transgender-athlete-law-osaa-track-field-peter-weber-john-parks-rob-wagner-mary-kay-larson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Parks is no longer employed at the district but did not give a reason, saying the district does not discuss personnel matters.<\/p>\n<p>Parks is appealing the school district\u2019s decision to terminate his contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to fight now because I got wronged,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/katu.com\/news\/local\/lake-oswego-coach-says-district-ousted-him-after-pushed-change-in-transgender-athlete-law-osaa-track-field-peter-weber-john-parks-rob-wagner-mary-kay-larson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> KATU. \u201cI am \u2026 fighting for girls, I\u2019m fighting for female sports, and I\u2019m fighting that it be fair for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you come to championship events, these things involve scholarships, they involve things that they have an unfair advantage in at the highest level when it comes to physical things,\u201d Parks said. \u201cWe\u2019re not talking about political. This is not a political issue to me and never has been.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A petition to reinstate Parks as coach has already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/reinstate-coach-john-parks-as-head-coach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gathered<\/a> more than 100 signatures.<\/p>\n<p>Riley Gaines, former college swimmer and women\u2019s sports activist highlighted Parks\u2019 situation in a social media post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s taken his team to the state championship 3 years in a row,\u201d she posted on X. \u201cThe problem is his stance was way too reasonable, so they ousted him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Female athletes at high schools and colleges in several states have spoken out against competing against biological males, some arguing that they missed out on awards and scholarships after losing to their male competitors.<\/p>\n<p>High school girls have also been injured playing with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-data-emerges-of-1100-adolescent-gender-affirming-mastectomies\/\" title=\"New Data Emerges Of 1,100+ Adolescent \u2018Gender Affirming\u2019 Mastectomies\">trans-identifying males<\/a>.
