Armed guards on the ship were reportedly unable to respond effectively, and the vessel was critically damaged, leading to severe flooding\u200c especially in the\u2064 engine room. This incident has been \u2064attributed to the Yemeni Houthi rebels, supported by\u2063 Iran. The US\u200b Navy\u2062 evacuated the \u2063crew,\u2062 but a Filipino sailor was reported missing and later confirmed dead.<\/p>\n<p>This\u2063 attack forms part of a larger campaign by Houthi militants targeting critical maritime lanes in the Red\u200c Sea, purportedly supporting Hamas following the October 7 attacks in \u200cIsrael, though U.S. officials have labeled\u200c these actions as &#8220;pure terrorism&#8221;. The men realized the incoming vessel, seemingly an uncrewed kamikaze boat, is heading right for their ship.<\/p>\n<p>The guards, apparently unable to do anything but watch up until that moment, immediately ran for cover.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Footage shows what appears to be the first successful Houthi kamikaze USV strike on Greek-owned cargo ship Tutor while transiting the Red Sea on June 12.<\/p>\n<p>The crew was evacuated by the U.S. Navy.<\/p>\n<p>The ship is sinking. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qMBfV00zZp\">pic.twitter.com\/qMBfV00zZp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Clash Report (@clashreport) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/clashreport\/status\/1802596916024266752?\">June 17, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The vessel was hit and soon began to take on water.<\/p>\n<p>According to the United States military, which responded to the sinking ship, Yemeni Houthi rebels were behind the kamikaze attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn June 12, Iranian-backed Houthis struck M\/V Tutor, a Liberian flagged, Greek owned and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-navy-forced-to-medically-evacuate-crew-after-cargo-ship-hit-by-multiple-missiles\/\" title=\"U.S. Navy Medically Evacuates Crew Following Missile Attack on Cargo Ship\">operated bulk cargo carrier<\/a>, with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/japan-countering-chinas-naval-buildup-with-modern-fleet\/\" title=\"Japan Countering China\u2019s Naval Buildup With Modern Fleet\">uncrewed surface vessel<\/a> (USV) resulting in severe flooding and damage to the engine room,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/MEDIA\/PRESS-RELEASES\/Press-Release-View\/Article\/3808372\/update-on-mv-tutor-and-mv-verbena\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Central Command update<\/a> reads. \u201cOne civilian mariner remains missing following the attack. The crew abandoned ship and were rescued by USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and partner forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tutor was abandoned but appears to still be afloat in a very-diminished capacity.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will the situation in the Red Sea soon grow worse?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The missing sailor, a Filipino seaman, was later confirmed dead.<\/p>\n<p>Houthi militants\u2019 campaign against the vital Red Sea shipping lane kicked off in November of last year, aided in the violence by Iran. The conflict erupted as the Houthis proclaimed their support for Hamas in the wake of the deadly October 7 attacks in Israel. The Red Sea attacks have often targeted civilian cargo liners and shipping vessels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is pure terrorism,\u201d National Security Spokesman John Kirby said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/news\/filipino-sailor-killed-in-huthi-attack-on-cargo-ship-white-house-50069cc6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barron\u2019s<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s simply no other word for it. The Houthi claim of supporting Gazans is meritless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kirby would seem to be completely right.<\/p>\n<p>Civil war-torn Liberia, where the Tutor is flagged, and Greece, the nationality of the vessel\u2019s ownership, seemingly have no direct hand in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>The answer for the Houthis\u2019 action seems clear. The Tutor, a civilian vessel, made an easy target. With no active defenses or elaborate electronic countermeasures, this ship and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-ship-earlier-attacked-yemens-houthi-rebels-sinks-red-sea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">others like it<\/a> are sitting ducks for Houthi attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Not every Houthi attempt to sink ships is a success, however.<\/p>\n<p>A large scale attack from the Houthi rebels in March was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/us-navy-repels-large-scale-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">countered by United States warships<\/a>, operating in the region to secure a critical axis in international shipping.<\/p>\n<p>The rise of the Houthi menace in the Red Sea has highlighted a changing battlefield that appears to favor hit-and-run tactics favored by irregular forces.<\/p>\n<p>Kamikaze ships and drones, depending on their size, can be quickly and cheaply manufactured and fielded without the need of putting a trained crew in harm\u2019s way. Weapons of this nature can easily disable a ship, or as seen in the fields of Ukraine can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/five-us-made-abrams-main-battle-tanks-destroyed-cheap-russian-tactic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">knock out an advanced piece of American-made armor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As the technology for these weapons becomes more easily accessible, their presence on the battlefield will undoubtedly increase.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
