This\u200d request stems from an inquiry where Hunter Biden allegedly mentioned his father, \u200dPresident Joe\u2063 Biden. Leading this action are Representatives James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH), who are also directing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-threaten-impeachment-of-attorney-general-garland\/\" title=\"House GOP threatens to impeach Attorney General Garland.\">impeachment\u2062 inquiry<\/a> into the president. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH), who are leading an impeachment inquiry into the president, requested in a letter all SEC records connecting Hunter Biden to the commission\u2019s 2016 investigation, which resulted in the SEC charging seven people with fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo further the House\u2019s impeachment inquiry the Committees must determine the propriety with which SEC handled this matter,\u201d Comer and Jordan wrote.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<blockquote data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>\ud83d\udea8 HUNTER PLAYED THE DAD CARD IN SEC INVESTIGATION \ud83d\udea8<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Hunter Biden was subpoenaed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for information in its investigation of a tribal bond scheme in which several individuals were charged with violating federal securities\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nSVyLECF64\">pic.twitter.com\/nSVyLECF64<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Oversight Committee (@GOPoversight) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/1803087847076888621?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>They pointed to a subpoena Hunter Biden received in 2016 from the SEC seeking documents the first son had related to Rosemont Seneca Bohai, a company implicated in the SEC\u2019s fraud investigation.<\/p>\n<p>When Hunter Biden replied to the subpoena with the requested material, the first son\u2019s attorney also asked the SEC to be particularly confidential about the matter because of how it could affect then-Vice President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be unfair, not just to our client, but also to his father, the Vice President of the United States, if his involvement in an SEC investigation and parallel criminal probe were to become the subject of any media attention,\u201d Hunter Biden\u2019s attorney wrote on April 20, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Comer and Jordan found it out of line for Hunter Biden to use his father as a reason to request confidentiality during the SEC\u2019s inquiry, an observation that comes after the Republicans found during their impeachment inquiry repeated instances of the first son wielding his father\u2019s name in business dealings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Biden\u2019s response gratuitously invoked his father\u2019s position as the Vice President in what could be interpreted as an effort to discourage further SEC scrutiny,\u201d the Republicans wrote. \u201cAnd on May 11, 2016, the SEC published a press release \u2014 announcing the charging of seven individuals \u2014 with no mention or charging of Hunter Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The SEC at the time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/litigation\/complaints\/2016\/comp-pr2016-85.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>charged<\/a> Hunter Biden\u2019s former business partner Devon Archer, a man the first son once worked with named Jason Galanis, and several others with participating in a scheme to invest $43 million in sham tribal bonds.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden was never implicated in the scheme despite Archer later testifying to Congress that the first son served as the \u201ccorporate secretary\u201d of Rosemont Seneca Bohai, a company named in the SEC\u2019s complaint.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Republicans, led by Reps.
