Eventually, the sore loser needs either a comeuppance, a plot twist or a redemption arc to avoid growing tiresome.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing rivalry between rookie guard Caitlin Clark of the WNBA\u2019s Indiana Fever and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/even-sports-media-doesnt-know-about-the-wnba-calls-chennedy-carter-a-rookie-despite-playing-for-4-years\/\" title=\"Sports Media Unaware of WNBA: Labels Chennedy Carter as Rookie After 4 Seasons\">rookie forward<\/a> Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky, which dates to their college days, will soon grow tiresome if, while Clark maintains her present gracious posture, Reese continues to devolve into a caricature of self-pity who hilariously fancies herself both villain and victim.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Clark\u2019s Indiana Fever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-angel-reese-defends-vicious-hit-caitlin-clark-blames-refs-fouls-special-whistle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defeated<\/a> Reese\u2019s Chicago Sky, 91-83, in a game that featured a hard foul by Reese on Clark.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference after the game, Reese blamed the referees and implied that Clark receives preferential treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we went up really strong a lot of times, and we didn\u2019t get a lot of calls,\u201d she said of her Sky teammates. \u201cAnd going back and looking at the film, I\u2019ve seen a lot of calls that weren\u2019t made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then came the veiled shot at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-wnba-player-grabs-caitlin-clark-sparks-quick-reaction-fever-teammate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess some people got a special whistle,\u201d the rookie forward said as she oozed sour grapes.<\/p>\n<p>Remarkably, Reese then suggested a kind of anti-Sky conspiracy even among media members.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Are you a fan of Caitlin Clark?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s something y\u2019all not gonna be able to stop,\u201d she said of her and her teammates playing hard. \u201cRegardless of the referees, like, we\u2019re here for a while. We\u2019re not gonna be denied \u2014 no matter what you guys can try to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reese\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/army-of-thousands-forms-to-help-trump-stands-ready-for-rnc-to-deploy-in-major-election-strategy\/\" title=\"Thousands Rally to Support Trump, Prepared for Major Election Strategy at RNC\">relevant comments began<\/a> around the 1:30 mark of the video below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dqx6-U8fL7w?si=x2LnBVgGtGA-GReC\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/team-usa-defends-snubbing-caitlin-clark-backlash-team-wants-good-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clark<\/a> had a very different-sounding press conference. In fact, when asked about Reese, Clark said nothing that would suggest a bitter rivalry between the two.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what she\u2019s done with her platform has been absolutely incredible,\u201d Clark said of Reese in a clip of the press conference posted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has an entire fan base that has supported her and what she did at Maryland and then LSU. Obviously, I\u2019ve played her for a very long time, and she\u2019s been a tremendous player,\u201d Clark added.<\/p>\n<p>The Fever rookie even credited Reese with helping to generate interest in the long-floundering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/stephen-smith-lights-analyst-wnba-delusion-caitlin-clark-jealousy-talks-wnba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WNBA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been fun getting to compete again. I think it\u2019s been really good for the game. And people just love seeing great match-ups,\u201d Clark said.<\/p>\n<p>And when people tune in for those match-ups, \u201cthey get to see how amazing these teams are. And then they find new players to support and continue to come back for them, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, a rising tide lifts all boats.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Caitlin Clark on why a lot of people watch her and Angel Reese play:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what she\u2019s [Reese] has done with her platform has been absolutely incredible. Obviously, l\u2019ve played her\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kYYGY1rRaE\">pic.twitter.com\/kYYGY1rRaE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Vanshay Murdock \ud83c\udfa5\ud83c\udfa5 (@VanshayM) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VanshayM\/status\/1802431878726594721?\">June 16, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Clark-Reese rivalry, of course, began with the 2023 NCAA championship game, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/live-updates\/basketball-women\/d1\/live-updates-no-2-iowa-vs-no-3-lsu-national-championship-game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won by Reese\u2019s LSU Tigers<\/a>, 102-85, over Clark\u2019s Iowa Hawkeyes. Clark and Iowa got a measure of revenge with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/basketball-women\/article\/2024-04-01\/caitlin-clark-scores-41-iowa-exacts-revenge-lsu-advance-womens-final-four\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">94-87 win<\/a> that knocked Reese\u2019s Tigers out of the 2024 tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Clark has endured a rocky start to her rookie season as the first overall pick in the WNBA draft. She currently ranks a respectable 17th in the league in <a href=\"https:\/\/stats.wnba.com\/leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scoring<\/a> at 16.1 points per game. Her 6.2 <a href=\"https:\/\/stats.wnba.com\/leaders\/?Season=2024&#038;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&#038;StatCategory=AST\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assists<\/a> per game rank an even more respectable 4th overall. But she also leads the league by a wide margin with 5.5 <a href=\"https:\/\/stats.wnba.com\/leaders\/?Season=2024&#038;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&#038;StatCategory=TOV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">turnovers<\/a> per game.<\/p>\n<p>As any basketball fan will attest, those numbers show that Clark often has the ball in her hands, which means that she gets as much attention on the court as off it. And not all of that attention has been good.<\/p>\n<p>In a June 1 match-up with the Sky, for instance, Chicago forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-crowds-reaction-chennedy-carter-entering-first-game-caitlin-clark-backlash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chennedy Carter<\/a> delivered a cheap shot that knocked Clark to the ground. It bore no resemblance to an ordinary, competitive, basketball play. But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-caitlin-clark-hit-violent-cheap-shot-angel-reese-appears-celebrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reese<\/a> applauded her teammate nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>That play in particular, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wnba-player-loses-says-caitlin-clarks-name-used-racism-bigotry-deranged-rant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WNBA players\u2019 reactions<\/a> to Clark\u2019s massive popularity in general, have triggered predictable conversations about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-bill-maher-says-wnba-players-hate-caitlin-clark-white-not-lesbian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">race<\/a> \u2014 speaking of tiresome.\u00a0In fact, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-view-co-host-says-caitlin-clarks-white-privilege-popular-part-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">usual suspects<\/a> cannot stop talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jemele-hill-says-caitlin-clark-popular-race-sexuality-racial-meltdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">skin color<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the rivalry between Reese, who is black, and Clark, who is white, has a far deeper dynamic.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas Clark sounded gracious in her comments toward Reese, credited the Sky forward with helping to spark interest in the league and even noted that their ongoing rivalry would help boost the popularity of other deserving WNBA players, Reese sounded bitter as she wallowed in self-pity and blamed everyone else, including referees and media.<\/p>\n<p>And it was not the first time. In fact, at a press conference following LSU\u2019s loss to Iowa in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-sports-analyst-tears-villain-angel-reese-cries-media-take-l\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reese<\/a> endured some criticism for posing as a basketball \u201cvillain\u201d while at the same time becoming visibly emotional as she talked about herself and everything she allegedly has endured since her rivalry with Clark first captured the public\u2019s interest.<\/p>\n<p>Before long, therefore, Reese will have to change the narrative.
