These senators expressed\u200b concerns about potential vulnerabilities \u200cin the border \u2062security and immigration screening processes following the \u2062arrest of \u200dthese individuals in\u200d various U.S. cities. They emphasized the need for detailed information\u2062 to assess and strengthen national security measures. The inquiry was precipitated by a report revealing that these suspects \u200bhad been released into the U.S. before their links to terrorism were identified, despite assurances of\u200c thorough vetting by \u2063the Biden administration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Top Senate Republicans have pushed the Biden administration\u2019s top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/border-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>border<\/a> official to explain how federal law enforcement allowed eight suspected ISIS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/terrorists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>terrorists<\/a> into the United States at the U.S.-Mexico border.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the top GOP member on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, announced on Monday that they had contacted Homeland Security Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/alejandro-mayorkas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a> and demanded an explanation for how the department screened and vetted eight Russian citizens from Tajikistan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe circumstances of these arrests have highlighted significant potential vulnerabilities within our border security and immigration screening processes,\u201d Graham and Paul wrote in the June 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paul.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/06.14.24-Letter-from-RM-Paul-and-RM-Graham_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the serious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-pulls-65-pending-trump-executive-orders\/\" title=\"Biden Pulls 65 Pending Trump Executive Orders\">national security implications<\/a> of these deficiencies, it is imperative that we receive detailed information to fully understand the scope of these issues and to ensure that our border infrastructure and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flower-power-az-dem-wants-to-convert-military-resources-to-fight-climate-change\/\" title=\"Flower Power: AZ Dem Wants to \u2018Convert\u2019 Military Resources to Fight Climate Change\">national security systems<\/a> are adequately safeguarding against such threats,\u201d the letter stated.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3037455\/republicans-pulverize-biden-isis-terrorists-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>erupted<\/a> with fury last week following the publication of a <em>New York Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/11\/us-news\/six-suspected-terrorists-with-isis-ties-arrested-in-sting-operation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> that stated U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had arrested the immigrants during busts in Los Angeles, New York City, and Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities wiretapped individuals and recorded a conversation about making bombs.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects were encountered at the southern border and released into the country. U.S. Customs and Border Protection did not realize until after their release, with at least two occurring in 2023, that they posed a serious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/state-dept-spox-largest-threat-to-u-s-national-security-are-u-s-cops\/\" title=\"State Dept Spox: \u2018Largest Threat to U.S. National Security are U.S. Cops\u2019\">national security threat<\/a> despite the Biden administration\u2019s assurances that all immigrants arrested were adequately screened and vetted before being let into the country, according to the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>Graham and Paul asked Mayorkas to turn over all \u201cA-Files,\u201d the name of the document that the department uses to track immigrants once they are apprehended at the border and released into the country to await court proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>The senators also demanded Mayorkas to send over all communications between the department and the FBI, as well as internal communications about the eight suspected terrorists, details about each person\u2019s arrest and detainment, addresses they provided at the time of release from custody, and what criminal and international databases revealed of the immigrants\u2019 histories at the time that they were checked against those systems.<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas has until June 28 to provide the senators with the requested information.<\/p>\n<p>The number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border and determined while in custody to be on the FBI terrorist watch list has spiked under President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>In fiscal 2023, which ended in September last year, the Border Patrol caught more than<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2452843\/arrests-of-people-on-fbi-terror-watch-list-crossing-border-illegally-hits-100-year-high\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> 172<\/a> known or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ramaswamy-warns-border-invasion-could-lead-to-attack-in-vein-of-hamas-oct-7-strike\/\" title=\"Ramaswamy cautions against border 'invasion', warns of potential attack similar to Hamas' Oct. 7 strike\">suspected terrorists illegally entering<\/a> the U.S. from Mexico or Canada.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The figure is a far cry from single-digit terrorist watch list numbers seen throughout the Trump administration.
