The settlement\u200b is in \u200cresponse to allegations that the bank failed to refund insufficient funds \u200cor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-bank-ceos-accused-of-woke-posturing-as-they-testify-before-congress\/\" title=\"Big Bank CEOs Accused of Woke Posturing as They Testify Before Congress\">overdraft fees<\/a> \u2063for certain \u200bcheck or ACH transactions, despite\u2063 violating account terms. Capital One account \u200bholders affected by \u2062these charges from September 1, 2015, to January \u200d12, \u200b2022, \u200dare eligible for compensation and\u2064 do not \u2063need to \u2063provide any documentation to submit a claim. \u2062Those \u2064who wish to exclude\u2062 themselves or object to the settlement must do so by June 17. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 15. Eligible customers who do not \u2064opt out will\u2064 automatically \u200creceive a settlement payment. This agreement \u2063follows recent news that Walmart has ended its exclusive\u2063 credit card agreement with Capital One.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/business\/3018145\/walmart-dissolves-exclusive-credit-card-contract-with-capital-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Capital One<\/a> customers have until midnight to see if they benefit from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>bank\u2019s<\/a> $16 million settlement to resolve <a href=\"https:\/\/capitalonerepresentmentlitigation.com\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>claims<\/a> that it charged unlawful fees for some transactions.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement is a victory for customers who claimed Capitol One violated its account terms by failing to refund insufficient funds or overdraft fees it charged for represented check or ACH transactions. Capitol One agreed to the settlement without admitting to being at fault.<\/p>\n<p>Capital One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-two-republicans-say-they-have-not-received-phone-record-subpoena-alerts\/\" title=\"EXCLUSIVE: Two Republicans Say They Have Not Received Phone Record Subpoena Alerts\">account holders<\/a> who were charged a represented fee between Sept. 1, 2015, and Jan. 12, 2022, are not required to provide anything to submit a claim.<\/p>\n<p>Customers wishing to exclude themselves from or object to a settlement claim have until June 17 to submit a written objection to the settlement administrator.<\/p>\n<p>The final approval hearing will be held on July 15.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible customers who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive a settlement payment.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/walmart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Walmart<\/a> announced that Capital One would no longer be the exclusive <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/credit-cards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>credit card issuer<\/a> of its <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/retail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>rewards program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The card, which had no annual fee, had been offered since 2019. While it offered 2% return for in-store purchases, it mostly pushed delivery and pick-up orders with a 5% return on those purchases. However, credit card services will continue to be offered by Capital One.<\/p>\n<p>The news came after U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla of Manhattan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/03\/26\/walmart-can-end-capital-one-credit-card-partnership-early-judge-rules.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>ruled on a lawsuit<\/a> that Walmart filed against Capital One regarding the partnership. According to the retailer, Capital One was slow to post transactions to users\u2019 accounts and to replace lost and stolen cards.
