This percentage increases to 28% for those with personal student loan debts and 30% \u2063for those holding debts for others. This survey was conducted shortly after the Biden administration announced \u2063the\u2062 cancellation \u2063of an additional $7.7\u200c billion in student loans, thus totaling\u2064 $167 billion in forgiven debt for 4.75 million beneficiaries. Four Everyday Things The Biden Administration Presents As \u2018Racist\u2019\">federal student debt<\/a>, a considerable amount but \u200dstill less than the\u2064 $430 billion potentially forgivable under President Joe Biden&#8217;s broader loan forgiveness proposals.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>Eighteen percent of people say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/student-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>student loan<\/a> debt will have a major influence on their vote in the upcoming presidential election, according to a Bankrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankrate.com\/loans\/student-loans\/student-loans-presidential-elections-survey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That figure rises to 28% among those who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psaki-student-loan-borrowers-likely-to-have-to-pay-debt-at-sometime\/\" title=\"Psaki: Student Loan Borrowers Likely to Have to Pay Debt at 'Sometime'\">hold student loan debt<\/a> for themselves and 30% who hold debt for someone else. <\/p>\n<p>The survey comes a month after the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/biden-harris-administration-announces-additional-77-billion-approved-student-debt-relief-160000-borrowers#:~:text=Today's%20announcement%20brings%20the%20total,approved%20for%20some%20debt%20relief.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>canceled<\/a> an additional $7.7 billion in student debt, bringing the administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-announces-billions-more-in-student-debt-relief\/\" title=\"White House unveils additional billions in student debt relief\">total debt relief<\/a> to $167 billion for 4.75 million people.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s approximately 10% of all federal student debt, much less than the <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2024\/03\/07\/politics\/student-loan-debt-forgiveness-biden\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>$430 billion<\/a> in loan forgiveness under President Joe Biden\u2019s original plan, which the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Supreme Court<\/a> struck down last year.<\/p>\n<p>A recent poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-student-loan-handouts-get-approval-just-3-10-americans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>revealed<\/a> that only 30% of adults approve of Biden\u2019s handling of student loan debt, a major focus of his 2020 presidential election campaign, while 40% disapprove. <\/p>\n<p>Millennials with student debt are by far the most likely to say student loans are important to their vote, with 35% listing it as a major influence, according to the Bankrate survey. Only 22% of Generation Z and 24% of Generation X debtholders said the same.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, nearly a quarter of people with student loan debt say they are having trouble affording their monthly payments or have skipped at least one monthly payment since payments resumed in October 2023.<\/p>\n<p>However, the share of those who think student loan debt is a national crisis is down 3 percentage points from last year, from 32% to 29%.
