The governor&#8217;s office emphasized this action as part of their commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-is-for-stoners-commonwealth-becomes-16th-state-to-legalize-marijuana\/\" title=\"Virginia Is For Stoners: Commonwealth Becomes 16th State To Legalize Marijuana\">social equity<\/a> and fair administration of justice, acknowledging the changed legal status of marijuana in Maryland.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/wes-moore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Wes Moore\">Wes Moore<\/a> (D-MD) is set to pardon more than 175,000 marijuana convictions in <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maryland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Wes Moore\">Maryland<\/a> on Monday, less than two years after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democratic-representative-demands-pelosi-block-126-republicans-from-being-seated-in-congress\/\" title=\"Democratic Representative Demands Pelosi Block 126 Republicans from Being Seated in Congress\">voters elected<\/a> to legalize recreational <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marijuana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"marijuana\">marijuana<\/a> in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s actions on Monday will pardon more than 150,000 simple possession of cannabis convictions, with the intent of helping those convicted of low-level criminal offenses related to the drug.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Moore-Miller Administration is committed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stimulus-update-applications-for-rebate-payment-worth-up-to-318-open-in-one-day\/\" title=\"Rebate payment applications worth up to 8 now open within 24 hours\">promoting social equity<\/a> and ensuring the fair and equitable administration of justice,\u201d the governor\u2019s office said. \u201cBecause the use and possession of cannabis is no longer illegal in the state, Marylanders should not continue to face barriers to housing, employment, or educational opportunities based on convictions for conduct that is no longer illegal.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The governor\u2019s office says that roughly 25% of the pardons will be from Baltimore and that none of the actions on Monday will result in anyone being released from incarceration.<\/p>\n<p>The state docket for those receiving the pardon will be updated within two weeks of the action by Moore.
