Karl highlighted that despite these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-two-democratic-senators-oppose-the-15-minimum-wage\/\" title=\"Why Two Democratic Senators Oppose the  Minimum Wage\">positive signs<\/a>, polls\u200b consistently show \u200bvoters favoring Donald Trump over Biden\u200b when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-pivot-on-inflation-after-months-of-transitory-claim\/\" title=\"Democrats Pivot on Inflation After Months of 'Transitory' Claim\">economic trust<\/a>. Yellen attributed the dissatisfaction to \u2064the enduring impacts of the pandemic, which she noted had been a challenging period.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Treasury Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/janet-yellen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janet Yellen<\/a> was <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/ThisWeek\/video\/1-1-janet-yellen-111164541\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressed on Sunday<\/a> to answer why voters are unhappy with the economy under President Joe Biden just months ahead of his expected rematch against former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Karl, a co-anchor of ABC News\u2019s \u201cThis Week,\u201d set up the question by telling Yellen that she had \u201ccited a lot of positive macroeconomic indicators\u201d while commenting on the economic situation in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rate of inflation is coming down. Unemployment is low. The economy\u2019s growing. But why is it then that voters seem so unsatisfied?\u201d Karl asked. \u201cAnd in fact, in poll after poll, voters say they trust Donald Trump with the economy more than Joe Biden. What\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I think the pandemic was a profoundly difficult time,\u201d Yellen replied. \u201cBut in the years leading up to the pandemic, Americans were really, many of them, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-commerce-secretary-is-a-former-venture-capitalist-but-some-gopers-warn-shell-be-soft-on-china\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Commerce Secretary Is A Former Venture Capitalist, But Some GOPers Warn She\u2019ll Be \u2018Soft On China\u2019\">working-class families<\/a> just struggling with things like healthcare costs, the cost of energy, education costs, childcare costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cAnd so they really feel the cost of living. Housing is particularly unaffordable in so many parts of the country. And I think the inflation that we experienced after the pandemic just compounded this feeling for them that life isn\u2019t affordable. So it is the Biden administration\u2019s top priority to address these costs where we possibly can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karl interjected to focus on inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, and just to be clear, I mean, the rate of inflation is coming down, but overall inflation is up 19% since President Biden took office,\u201d Karl said. \u201cOn some everyday goods, it\u2019s much higher. The price of eggs is up 84% since President Biden took office; ground beef, up 30%; bread, up 27%. I mean, by and large, inflation rate may go down, but those prices aren\u2019t returning to where they were. I mean, those prices are going to remain high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yellen said \u201cit is true that, over the last roughly three years, there\u2019s been a significant increase in the price level. It\u2019s now rising at a very slow, close to normal rate. But, yes, Americans see that, and mainly it comes on top of concerns about costs that were making life very difficult. So it\u2019s something the Biden administration absolutely wants to address. I would point out, of course, that wages have also gone up during this time, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-california-democrat-majority-leader-endorses-larry-elder-for-governor\/\" title=\"Former California Democrat Majority Leader Endorses Larry Elder For Governor\">government studies show<\/a> that, for all \u2014 for households at all points in the income distribution \u2014 wages have gone up somewhat more than prices. So the typical American is somewhat better off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karl also asked Yellen to comment on Trump floating the idea of replacing federal income taxes with tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would require tariffs well over 100%,\u201d Yellen said. \u201cThe impact would be to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-mike-lee-endorses-trump-out-of-binary-choice\/\" title=\"Sen.
