This surge was attributed to policy changes from the \u200cBiden administration \u2063earlier\u200b in 2021. Officials, including a newly appointed Border Czar, Mike Banks, reported that since\u200d the operation&#8217;s implementation,\u2062 there has been a significant diversion of \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-to-send-310m-to-guatemala-for-migrant-relief\/\" title=\"Biden admin. to send 0M to Guatemala for \u2018migrant relief\u2019\">illegal entry attempts<\/a> from Texas to other states \u2064like New Mexico, Arizona, and\u200b California. Texas, which had accounted for 60% of the total <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/truckers-canadian-police-engaged-in-standoff-at-protest-at-u-s-canada-border\/\" title=\"Truckers, Canadian Police Engaged In Standoff At Protest At U.S.-Canada Border\">cross-border traffic<\/a> in \u200bDecember 2022, \u200bsaw its\u2063 share decrease to 29% by January 2024. The &#8220;prevent,\u2062 deter,\u200b interdict&#8221;\u2063 strategy \u2062pushed by Banks and supported by the Texas Department\u200c of Public Safety among others has\u200c seen a substantial decrease in illegal crossings by \u206274%\u200c since\u2063 OLS&#8217;s inception. This \u200dhas led to one of the\u200b lowest numbers \u200bof illegal crossings reported\u2063 in over two \u2064years.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 At a recent Texas Senate Committee hearing on border security and the progress of Texas\u2019 border security mission, Operation Lone Star, officials discussed how state efforts have moved illegal entry west to New Mexico, Arizona and California.<\/p>\n<p>When the border crisis first erupted in early 2021 after the Biden administration began implementing a range of policies, Texas border towns were overrun with crime and a volume of people taxing local resources. In March 2021, Gov. Greg Abbott created OLS, which has since expanded operations. In January 2023, he brought on a new \u201cBorder Czar,\u201d Mike Banks to help lead Texas\u2019 efforts after he served for decades in the U.S. Border Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>Banks reiterated to the committee the success of OLS first reported on by The Center Square, that as Texas expanded its efforts, illegal entry increased in New Mexico, Arizona and California. In December 2022, Texas accounted for 60% of all cross-border traffic across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/november-migrant-apprehensions-along-southwest-border-jump-140-percent-over-last-year\/\" title=\"November Migrant Apprehensions Along Southwest Border Jump 140 Percent over Last Year\">entire southwest border<\/a>. By January 2024, that number dropped to only 29%, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Within a year of joining OLS operations, Banks helped implement a \u201cprevent, deter, interdict\u201d approach to prevent illegal entry in addition to law enforcement interdiction efforts being carried out by Texas Department of Public Safety, other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-secretary-of-state-investigating-voter-registration-group-run-by-democrat-raphael-warnock\/\" title=\"Georgia Secretary Of State Investigating Voter Registration Group Run By Democrat Raphael Warnock\">law enforcement officers<\/a> and the Texas Military Department.<\/p>\n<p>Their results have paid off, Banks said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas has seen an overall 74% decrease in illegal crossings since the beginning of Operation Lone Star in March 2021,\u201d he said, citing U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. Last month, the lowest number of illegal border crossings was reported in Texas in over two years, at under 34,000, he said.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2022, there were 130,000 illegal border crossers reported in Texas in one month, or roughly 4,200 illegal entries a day, he said, citing CBP data. One year later, in January 2024, there were 35,900 illegal entries reported in Texas in one month, a 1,100 daily average, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Major General Tom Sueltzer, Adjutant General for the State of Texas, said 97% of Operation Lone Star personnel have all volunteered to serve on the border and are engaged in a range of tactical operations by air, land and water. Texas National Guard members have constructed hundreds of miles of border barriers from Brownsville to El Paso, he said.This includes 72 miles of commercial-grade fence, 133 miles of concertina wire barricades and 30 miles of anti-climb fencing.<\/p>\n<p>In the last two years, 18 states have deployed roughly 2400 National Guard troops to Texas to participate in OLS, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aoc-says-bidens-excuse-for-building-border-wall-is-false\/\" title=\"AOC: Biden's Border Wall Reason Is False.\">border security challenges<\/a> for Texas are different than for California. Texas shares 64% of the border with Mexico but only has 11% of the primary federal infrastructure, he said. Texas has a greater uphill battle to secure a border across extremely diverse terrain that spans 1,254 shared miles with Mexico, but multi-agency law enforcement efforts have paid off and morale is high, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Rio Grande Valley has been the epicenter for smuggling going back decades,\u201d he said. After Gov.
