Truex cited the demanding nature of the racing schedule, which took him away from \u2062significant family events and personal time, as a primary reason for his decision. Truex aims to finish his final season strong, focusing on\u200b his remaining races.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>Decorated NASCAR Champion Retires from Full-Time Competition: &#8216;You Don&#8217;t Have a Life&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ap-reports\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ap-reports\/%20\"><span>The Associated Press<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 15, 2024 at 9:36am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Martin Truex Jr. announced Friday he will retire from full-time racing at the end of the season, saying it was time to live by his own schedule after 19 years in NASCAR\u2019s Cup Series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, it\u2019s as simple as just not having a crazy schedule where, you know, you\u2019re 40 weekends at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-dale-earnhardt-jr-s-teen-niece-catapults-off-racetrack-terrifying-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">racetrack<\/a>,\u201d Truex said at Iowa Speedway, where he will be making his 674th Cup start on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone in my family, who\u2019s ever gotten married, I\u2019ve missed their wedding. You know what I mean? \u2026 You don\u2019t have a life. You\u2019re married to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/racing-series-governing-body-denies-request-promote-trump-car-bodywork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">racing<\/a>, that\u2019s all you do. Monday until Sunday, that\u2019s all you do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Questions about possible retirement have followed Truex over the last couple of years. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-tweets-out-martial-law-fake-news-knowing-there-are-several-options-on-the-table\/\" title=\"President Trump Tweets Out \u201cMartial Law = Fake News\u201d Knowing There Are Several Options on the Table\">news broke<\/a> on Thursday \u2014 \u201cI don\u2019t even know why I\u2019m here,\u201d Truex joked as he started his news conference \u2014 but Truex said he made the decision \u201ca few weeks ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was leaning that way most of the season,\u201d Truex said. \u201cI was leaning that direction, but I wasn\u2019t totally sure. So I just took a while to think about it all. It\u2019s a big decision. It affects not just me, it affects a lot of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Truex said it was difficult to tell Joe Gibbs, the 83-year-old owner of Truex\u2019s Joe Gibbs Racing team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach has been awesome,\u201d Truex said of Gibbs. \u201cHe helped me work through it. He would always make a list of pros and cons and his list of pros was always longer than mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the last time I had nine pluses and two minuses,\u201d Gibbs interjected.<\/p>\n<p>Truex has won 34 Cup races, 32 since 2015. He had a career-high eight wins in 2017, when he won the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-racers-kyle-busch-ricky-stenhouse-jr-get-intense-fistfight-nascar-star-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Truex also won the 2004 and 2005 Xfinity Series championships, winning 13 races in that series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been just absolutely great working with him,\u201d Gibbs said. \u201cI think everybody knows Martin\u2019s reputation \u2014 a real gentleman, a great competitor. But he\u2019ll be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Truex, who turns 44 on June 29, hasn\u2019t won a Cup race since last July at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fat-lady-singing-5-takeaways-new-hampshire-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Hampshire<\/a>, a span of 32 races. He has four top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 16 races this season, and is fifth in the standings, 53 points behind leader Kyle Larson.<\/p>\n<p>Truex said his decision didn\u2019t have anything to do with his performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had some disappointments this year, for sure,\u201d Truex said. \u201cIt\u2019s not enough to make you stop doing what you want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibbs said he has begun the search for Truex\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still working on all that,\u201d Gibbs said. \u201cSo we just want to focus right now on Martin, and all of that stuff will take place later on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For now, Truex will try his best to finish strong in his final season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess it\u2019ll feel different knowing that I\u2019ll be going to tracks for the last time in a Cup car,\u201d Truex said. \u201cI\u2019m not sure what it\u2019s going to be like but I\u2019m going to try to enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibbs said Truex would remain with the team as an \u201cambassador,\u201d and Truex said he hadn\u2019t ruled out running an occasional race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got Xfinity cars,\u201d Truex said, laughing as he nodded toward Gibbs. \u201c\u2018Coach, I\u2019m bored, I want to go race.
