That\u2019s Not True.\">influence voters<\/a> as the \u2064election nears, with only\u200b five months left until Election Day. Democratic attacks \u2064have particularly targeted\u200d gubernatorial candidate and current \u2063Lieutenant Governor, Mark Robinson, criticizing his stance even before \u200chis\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-potential-roadblocks-looming-over-trumps-2024-presidential-campaign\/\" title=\"Three potential roadblocks looming over Trump's 2024 presidential campaign\">official candidacy announcement<\/a>. The\u2063 relevance of \u200babortion issues\u2063 in voters&#8217; minds has\u200d been reinforced by \u2064a recent U.S. Supreme\u2063 Michigan decision on mifepristone, providing Democrats\u2063 with additional arguments against Republican policies.<\/p>\n<p>Polling \u200bdata from North \u2062Carolina suggests varying priorities \u200damong\u200c voters.\u200b A \u200bpoll conducted by The Telegraph in early \u200cMay showed that 38%\u200d of 553 likely voters ranked the \u200deconomy as\u2064 their primary concern, followed by abortion at\u2062 over \u200d16%, and immigration at just over \u20638%. Another poll by the East Carolina University \u2064Center for \u200bSurvey Research from May 31\u200c to June 3 among 1,332 registered voters found similar trends with inflation and the economy overshadowing abortion as key issues.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 North Carolina Democrats have urged voters since January 2023 to consider Republican stances on abortion as Election Day closes to within five months.<\/p>\n<p>Gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson was being hammered in press releases by the chairwoman of the state Democratic Party well before he officially said he would run. Things haven\u2019t let up for the lieutenant governor since.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_b481183c-2997-11ef-bdc2-cb65bc1dff69.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Thursday\u2019s decision on mifepristone<\/strong><\/a> at the U.S. Supreme Court could be considered to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/north_carolina\/article_3f017292-29d2-11ef-8288-bf2d4dee62d7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>given Democrats more ammunition<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of the <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/north-carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>statewide polls since May 1<\/strong><\/a>, only two of nine asked questions related to either abortion or important issues. Money won out on those, as in what is in the voters\u2019 pockets.<\/p>\n<p>Of 553 likely voters sampled in early May by The Telegraph, using Redfield &#038; Wilton Strategies, 38% said the economy was the top issue. Abortion was second at better than 16%, with immigration a distant third at just over 8%.<\/p>\n<p>Of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/north_carolina\/article_e650bfd2-2444-11ef-81f0-cb8688e2e533.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>1,332 registered voters checked by the East Carolina University Center for Survey Research<\/strong><\/a> May 31-June 3, inflation was the top issue at 41.5%, followed by the economy in general at 16.9%. Abortion was next at 12.5%.<\/p>\n<p>In April, state Democratic Party Chairwoman Anderson Clayton said, \u201cAbortion is going to be the No. 1 issue that we run on for people in North Carolina to make sure that folks know we\u2019ve got to protect not only abortion but also contraception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robinson has punched at Stein\u2019s public safety record as attorney general, mixing it with border security. The economy and inflation are foundational to his and all Republican strategies.<\/p>\n<p>When news came Thursday of the Supreme Court keeping mifepristone available, Clayton said, \u201cToday\u2019s decision by the Supreme Court does not change the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gavin-newsoms-6-worst-policies-as-california-governor\/\" title=\"Gavin Newsom\u2019s 6 Worst Policies as California Governor\">reproductive freedom<\/a> is on the ballot this November,\u201d Clayton said Thursday of the Supreme Court ruling that keeps mifepristone available. \u201cDonald Trump and his allies like Mark Robinson are hellbent on taking away access to lifesaving reproductive health care including IVF and contraception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carolina Forward, a partisan sponsor of the state Democratic Party,\u00a0abortion rights in its May poll. Its quick link to polling on abortion rights goes to a 2021 survey.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson is dueling with Attorney General Josh Stein for governor. Stein\u2019s broadcast advertising launched last week includes a Facebook Live video from 2019 before Robinson won the statewide election, where the Republican says, \u201cAbortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers. It\u2019s about killing the child because you weren\u2019t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Polling shows a tight race, with neither candidate able to escape the margin of error or credibility interval to establish a solid lead.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest poll for ECU, Stein led 44%-43% with 11% undecided and 4% choosing the option of some other candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have historical domination in the race for governor.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina had a Republican governor when the Civil War ended in 1865.
