This counterfeit material, originating from a Chinese company, was found after a supplier noticed corrosion holes in the parts. Affected aircraft include the Boeing 737\u2063 Max, 787 Dreamliner, and Airbus&#8217; A220 jets, manufactured between 2019 and 2023. The problem was identified when Boeing made a voluntary disclosure to the FAA \u2064about possible falsified records from a distributor.<\/p>\n<p>Boeing has taken proactive steps by issuing a bulletin\u2063 to their suppliers to guard against \u2064such occurrences and\u200b is\u200c removing any questionable parts before aircraft delivery. An ongoing investigation by Spirit AeroSystems is determining whether the titanium\u200b in question can safely remain in planes throughout their operational lifecycle or needs replacement. Meanwhile,\u200c testing \u2063of the counterfeit materials has shown mixed results, confirming the right titanium alloy was used in some cases but failing other tests. This incident has raised broader concerns about the quality and documentation of parts used\u200c in Boeing planes,\u2062 exacerbated by recent safety incidents involving the company&#8217;s aircraft.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/dcnf\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/dcnf\/%20\"><span>Will Kessler<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 14, 2024 at 7:23am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating how counterfeit titanium from a Chinese company found its way into recently manufactured Boeing planes, according to The New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>The counterfeit titanium was discovered after a parts supplier for the plane manufacturer found small holes in the material due to corrosion, generating concerns about the structural integrity of the planes, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/14\/us\/politics\/boeing-airbus-titanium-faa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear yet how many planes were affected or which airlines own or operate them, but the materials were included in parts manufactured between 2019 and 2023 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-legislators-seek-answers-on-boeing-737-max-alert-defect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boeing 737 Max<\/a> and 787 Dreamliner airliners, as well as in European competitor Airbus\u2019 A220 jets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoeing reported a voluntary disclosure to the FAA regarding procurement of material through a distributor who may have falsified or provided incorrect records,\u201d an FAA spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoeing issued a bulletin outlining ways suppliers should remain alert to the potential of falsified records. The FAA is investigating the scope and impact of the issue through our Continued Operational Safety process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of Boeing and Airbus\u2019 suppliers, Spirit AeroSystems, is also investigating the titanium it used and whether it is structurally sound enough to remain on the planes through the lifetime of their operation or whether it needs to be removed or replaced, according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis industry-wide issue affects some shipments of titanium received by a limited set of suppliers, and tests performed to date have indicated that the correct titanium alloy was used,\u201d Boeing told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ensure compliance, we are removing any affected parts on airplanes prior to delivery.
