The writer reminisces about \u2063a time when\u200b media reporting\u200d was more\u200b about accountability and\u2064 transparency rather than partisan suppression, citing personal\u200b anecdotes \u200dof past reporting experiences \u200dthat \u200bfocused on\u200d exposing journalistic malpractices or engaging in lighter, entertaining criticism.<\/p>\n<p>the article laments the perceived\u2062 decline in \u2063genuine media reporting, suggesting it has been \u2063replaced by \u200dpartisan efforts to silence \u200bopposing viewpoints rather than uphold journalistic integrity.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>As the left-wing Media Matters for America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/under-legal-assault-elon-musk-others-media-matters-cuts-staff-1904305\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">buckles<\/a> under the weight of a delightfully crushing defamation lawsuit brought by Elon Musk \u2014\u00a0hope he wins! \u2014\u00a0it\u2019s probably a good time for that trash outlet\u2019s deep-pocket donors to consider spending their money elsewhere; not just because MMFA is a satanic organization that employs a bunch of otherwise unskilled dopes, but because so much of what was formerly known as \u201cmedia reporting\u201d is now simply more censorship and suppression of right-wingers, which is exactly what MMFA does.<\/p>\n<p>Politico on Friday ran a lengthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2024\/06\/14\/tucker-carlson-book-canceled-00163285?nname=playbook&#038;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&#038;nrid=0000014e-f115-dd93-ad7f-f915a6170001&#038;nlid=630318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article<\/a> about Tucker Carlson featuring this revealing quote by the Washington Post\u2019s Erik Wemple: \u201cI wrote about him when he was at Fox News for the simple reason that Tucker had bosses,\u201d said Wemple. \u201cAnd those bosses weren\u2019t accountable. They weren\u2019t really journalists, as we discovered in the Dominion suit. But they were sensitive to criticism, and my role as a media critic was to play all this stuff out and seek accountability from Fox and seek explanations from Fox.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2068141712\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b8b9bb03643e6ae3cede28469692eed3 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-b8b9bb03643e6ae3cede28469692eed3\"><\/div>\n<p>In other words, Wemple, a \u201cmedia reporter\u201d who has been around Washington forever and who was once Carlson\u2019s most dedicated viewer, was only interested in writing about the show host so long as it was possible to get him fired. Now that Carlson is self-employed and featured on a platform that\u2019s decidedly against information suppression and censorship (thanks, Elon), Wemple doesn\u2019t see the point. It\u2019s not that Carlson has less influence on the national discourse or has switched professions to something outside of Wemple\u2019s purview \u2014\u00a0it\u2019s that Wemple can no longer hope to pressure bosses at Fox to cave to his nagging.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, a media reporter at CNN dedicated an embarrassing amount of time this week reaching out to Ticketmaster and event venues for comment on their participation in <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/10\/tucker-carlson-on-national-tour-the-one-thing-google-cant-control-is-a-live-event\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a national tour<\/a> Carlson is scheduled to begin in the coming days. The CNNer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/13\/media\/tucker-carlson-ticketmaster-tour\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> that he got no response from anyone (that\u2019s how important he is), but he let his freak flag fly anyway. \u201cHow can any decent person not only participate in enabling Carlson\u2019s poisoning of the public discourse,\u201d he wrote, \u201cbut also justify profiting off of his hateful rhetoric in the process?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To recap, a prominent news personality watched by millions is doing a few live events and someone at CNN made it his mission to get them all canceled.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, \u201cmedia reporting\u201d is now that retarded.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-285873a0256bfa7fb7dd3d2b25412fdc fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-285873a0256bfa7fb7dd3d2b25412fdc\"><\/div>\n<p>I used to do media reporting, back when the point was to bring transparency to an industry that provides none of it while simultaneously demanding all of it from others. At its ideal, media reporting was a reality check on other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-senator-pelosi-and-schiff-weakened-ukraine\/\" title=\"GOP Senator: Pelosi and Schiff Weakened Ukraine\">high-profile journalists<\/a>, TV people and newsroom editors, a helpful reminder that they weren\u2019t above criticism, ridicule, or the possibility of being exposed. It could be as serious as challenging a news organization for failing to implement its own standards, like I did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/print\/why-does-ap-refer-to-michael-brown-as-teen-despite-style-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in 2014<\/a> when the Associated Press was referring to Michael Brown as a \u201cteen,\u201d despite the fact that he was a legal adult. Or, it could be as petty as highlighting the mockery a news anchor was receiving on social media, like I did when NBC\u2019s Chuck Todd inadvertently tweeted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/chuck-todd-inadvertently-tweets-crotch-photo-replies-come-pouring-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a close-up photo<\/a> of his crotch.<\/p>\n<p>That was a wildly fun time, but it\u2019s not what \u201cmedia reporters\u201d do anymore. Now they\u2019re only moved to check on their peers if it\u2019s to admonish them for failing to properly muzzle anyone who doesn\u2019t vote Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>To wit, the media news site Mediaite last week posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TyIX2wOvv60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video chat<\/a> with Democrat ABC News anchor and former Clinton White House official George Stephanopoulos, wherein the host and Stephanopoulos bemoaned the difficulty their peers have in doing live TV interviews with Donald Trump. Spoiler: the supposed challenge isn\u2019t that Trump is a lousy guest, it\u2019s that he doesn\u2019t shrivel into a mummified fetus every time some corny TV anchor calls him a liar.<\/p>\n<p>  \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a challenge for those who are [moderating] the debate in June,\u201d said Stephanopoulos. \u201cI mean, I think it\u2019s journalistic malpractice to do a live interview with President Trump on television.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fcf345880fb7249e64db90dd6cee9d5f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fcf345880fb7249e64db90dd6cee9d5f\"><\/div>\n<p>Can\u2019t do it live. That would run the risk of viewers seeing and hearing something that the media didn\u2019t approve. If \u201cmedia reporting\u201d was still a thing, the story here would be about journalists and news anchors making themselves the arbiters of what ideas and arguments the public is allowed to hear from a former and likely future president, with questions like: <em>Who are you to decide that? What qualifies you to determine what\u2019s safe for the public to know? Since live televised Trump appearances still attract ratings, doesn\u2019t that mean there\u2019s a sizable audience that wants to hear what he has to say without you clearing his every word?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not the point of \u201cmedia reporting\u201d anymore.
