When pseudo-sophisticates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/view\/articles\/2016-08-05\/eeoc-harassment-ruling-on-gadsden-flag-is-right?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revile<\/a> flags of American Independence as symbols of oppression and hate, we recognize their rejection of the principles of our Founding Fathers. And when people fly cultural revolutionary flags <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/13\/the-american-and-rainbow-flags-stand-for-two-incompatible-definitions-of-liberty-and-only-one-can-rule-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alongside<\/a> the Stars and Stripes, they show what they believe matters most.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-272519537\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1d82cad4a39c028e91e5be7549f11d4e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1d82cad4a39c028e91e5be7549f11d4e\"><\/div>\n<p>Americans who surrender the flags of our country\u2019s founding to their political opponents are, whether they realize it or not, surrendering America\u2019s founding principles. We see this happen when patriotic Americans decide not to raise certain flags for their own cause \u2014 the defense of those principles. These flags include the Gadsden \u201cDon\u2019t Tread on Me\u201d flag and the Pine Tree flag that calls for \u201cAn Appeal to Heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather than fight to keep the flags for all, the anti-patriots surrender them as standards of extremism. This is tragic.<\/p>\n<p>Less and less symbolism remains for Americans to rally around. The political elite even treat Old Glory as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-doubles-down-on-trump-hitler-comparisons-ahead-of-possible-2024-rematch\/\" title=\"Biden reaffirms Trump-Hitler parallels before potential 2024 rematch\">mere political tool<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We <a href=\"https:\/\/centerforsecuritypolicy.org\/flag-day-2023-reflection-the-fight-for-freedom-is-here\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">observe Flag Day annually<\/a> to honor our current national flag of 13 stripes and 50 stars. The day marks June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress defined the 13 red-and-white stripes and a blue union field with a circle of 13 stars as the official flag of the United States.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-94e49dcd345d15d8e10a95e624a9d387 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-94e49dcd345d15d8e10a95e624a9d387\"><\/div>\n<p>That flag, perhaps designed by Betsy Ross, has been under sustained attack. Critics pretend that it has a connection to slavery and racism.<\/p>\n<p>Decades of relentless attacks on the American flag from university cultural Marxists broke the public sense of patriotism through popular culture. In a society seething with racism-is-everywhere obsession, San Francisco 49ers football player Colin Kaepernick built a fawning following when he refused to stand for the \u201cStar-Spangled Banner\u201d at National Football League games, taking a knee instead.<\/p>\n<p>That was in 2016. Kaepernick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/colin-kaepernick-indeed-opting-out-of-49ers-contract-0ap3000000788531#:~:text=The%20Colin%20Kaepernick%20era%20in,NFL%20Network%20Insider%20Ian%20Rapoport.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">became a free agent<\/a> at the end of the season but <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/colin-kaepernick-kneeling-when-did-first-kneel-date-what-does-do-now\/4147237\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">didn\u2019t sign<\/a> with any NFL team. Welcoming the controversy, the athletic shoe company and NFL partner Nike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/story\/news\/2018\/09\/04\/colin-kaepernick-has-new-deal-with-nike-though-hes-not-in-nfl\/10857928007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">picked<\/a> him up two years later as a brand ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, as Nike prepared to roll out its special Air Max 1 USA \u2014 with the Betsy Ross flag decorating the heel \u2014 for limited release on the Fourth of July, its brand ambassador reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/nike-nixes-betsy-ross-flag-sneaker-after-colin-kaepernick-intervenes-11562024126?emailToken=47e5c8e732b793067828b3c3a65c5860C3JobOhj9s\/OU77irNMSTZZreR41NQHjtz28fFVnaFTG1A3jsve7JN0vgGByvhSL2HY+KRVh2gTGYaHvvQoJcuWkthp0mji3iiMUXQ+c9dR9lw99Ah\/hC0V8VsClchs0vsi3nU233no8aaUrHwto4A%3D%3D&#038;reflink=article_copyURL_share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decried the flag as tied to slavery<\/a>. Nike withdrew the shoes and issued a sanitized public comment, and the racist theme predictably spread like a virus.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-658bfa89688fb4d4c859140432eb3725 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-658bfa89688fb4d4c859140432eb3725\"><\/div>\n<p>The controversy prompted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/betsy-ross-flag-meaning-history-racist-1447174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newsweek<\/a> to ask, \u201cIs the Betsy Ross Flag Racist?\u201d The proper answer, many argued, was yes. So the deconstruction of the American flag progressed.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, purporting to describe \u201cthe symbols of hate and far-right extremism on display in pro-Trump Capitol siege,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/symbols-hate-extremism-display-pro-trump-capitol-siege\/story?id=75177671\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a> included the Betsy Ross flag.<\/p>\n<p>So did the FBI. An internal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectveritas.com\/news\/fbi-whistleblower-leaks-bureaus-domestic-terrorism-symbols-guide-on-militia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FBI \u201cDomestic Terrorism Symbols Guide\u201d<\/a> to detect \u201cMilitia Violent Extremists,\u201d leaked in 2022, identified \u201cRevolutionary War Imagery,\u201d the Liberty Tree, the Gadsden flag, and the Betsy Ross flag as potential terrorist symbols. The FBI Counterterrorism Division produced the guide, labeled \u201claw enforcement sensitive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document says much more about the FBI\u2019s decline and its departure from a commitment to American founding principles than \u201cdomestic terrorism.\u201d A survey of FBI social media posts on X, formerly Twitter, reveals that for the two weeks leading up to Flag Day, America\u2019s top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/waffle-arizona-house-speaker-claims-they-cant-enforce-constitution-wont-commit-to-calling-legislative-hearing\/\" title=\"WAFFLE: Arizona House Speaker Claims They Can\u2019t Enforce Constitution, Won\u2019t Commit To Calling Legislative Hearing\">federal law<\/a> enforcement agency featured the \u201cLGBTQIA+\u201d (yes, that\u2019s the latest acronym) flag far more frequently than the American flag. One <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FBILasVegas\/status\/1796936056324944365\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FBI post<\/a> even featured the rainbow flag flying on a parallel pole angled above Old Glory with the slogan, \u201cBecause we are all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flying another flag above or to the right of the American flag is a violation of <a href=\"https:\/\/uscode.house.gov\/view.xhtml?path=\/prelim@title4\/chapter1&#038;edition=prelim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal law<\/a>. The Biden administration stomped on the statute to celebrate \u201cpride\u201d month in 2023, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/biden-hosts-pride-month-celebration-at-white-house-voices-lgbtq-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">White House hung American flags<\/a> from either side of a central LGBT \u201cprogress\u201d flag on the South Portico.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, more American elected and judicial officials have made public rituals of carrying the red banner of Communist China. As grand marshal of a Lunar New Year parade last February, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., appeared on a stage with Communist Chinese diplomats, stood for the Communist Chinese national anthem, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2024\/02\/schumer-waves-chinas-flag-after-its-national-anthem-blares-at-manhattan-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">waved the Communist Chinese flag<\/a>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/james_t_quinn\/status\/1762217358108598733\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a> showed Schumer alongside Chinese Ambassador Huang Ping and Wu Xiaoming, who has been tied to Beijing\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-65305415\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">illegal<\/a> network of \u201cpolice stations\u201d in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Schumer and others have been silent as Hamas supporters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2024\/06\/09\/gaza-protest-white-house-vandalism-graffiti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">waved<\/a> Palestinian flags from national monuments and burned and stomped Old Glory.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the politicians and pundits who were fine with all of this are scandalized that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s wife, Martha-Ann Alito, would fly an \u201cAppeal to Heaven\u201d Pine Tree flag at their beach house. They are outraged that she would briefly fly an inverted American flag on family property \u2014 and further outraged that the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JMichaelWaller\/status\/1797100672292167928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heritage Foundation<\/a> flew the flag in solidarity once the media trumped up the flag scandal as an attack on the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Liberal or conservative, every American should respect the American flag. While some saw the Alito and Heritage displays as disrespectful or worse, <a href=\"https:\/\/uscode.house.gov\/view.xhtml?path=\/prelim@title4\/chapter1&#038;edition=prelim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal law<\/a> specifically permits flying the inverted flag as a distress signal.<\/p>\n<p>Under the section \u201cRespect for the flag,\u201d the law states, \u201cThe flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Look around. Is our polarized country not in the midst of self-destruction? Is America today not in a time of dire distress?<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there are pockets of patriotism emerging in some communities where leaders are committed to preserving what the founders created. More than <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/949671526\/fc077b9dfd?share=copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3,000 first-graders in Loudon County, Virginia<\/a>, joined veterans on Memorial Day to build small wooden American flags provided by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flagsofvalor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flags of Valor<\/a>, a veteran-owned-and-operated company that creates beautiful wooden American flags.<\/p>\n<p>This Flag Day prompts us to reflect on the extreme dangers ahead and \u201cAppeal to Heaven\u201d for more communities to join in a patriotic revival to rescue our republic.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-54049a212ee831798bcb89dbe4b4f2b9 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-54049a212ee831798bcb89dbe4b4f2b9\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flags reveal much about people: the flags they display, embrace, or burn indicate their stances and affiliations.
