This legislation \u200baims\u200b to increase the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-proposes-cutting-back-on-penalties-for-fentanyl-trafficking\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Proposes Cutting Back On Penalties For Fentanyl Trafficking\">minimum penalties<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-tech-censorship-left-wing-violence-in-national-spotlight\/\" title=\"Big Tech censorship, left-wing violence in national spotlight\">property damage<\/a>.\u200b The bill was introduced in response to incidents where \u200bstatues in the \u2063square were defaced, \u2062and no arrests were made by\u200b the Washington, \u200cD.C. police.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>After Lafayette Square outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"White House\">White House<\/a> was trashed by pro-Palestinian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/protests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"White House\">protesters<\/a> over the weekend, one Republican senator wants to throw the book at criminals damaging property.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tom-cotton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Tom Cotton\">Tom Cotton<\/a> (R-AR) unveiled a bill on Thursday, titled the Saving Treasured Artifacts Through Uniformed Enforcement Act, aimed at increasing minimum penalties for property damage, after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2024\/06\/09\/gaza-protest-white-house-vandalism-graffiti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"vandalism\">vandalism<\/a> to the statues in the square next to the White House resulted in no arrests from Washington, D.C., police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny protester who defaces statues of America\u2019s heroes must face the full extent of the law,\u201d Cotton told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Joe Biden seeks to appease the pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic Party, it\u2019s clear his administration won\u2019t do anything to punish the protesters who defaced the area around the White House recently. The Senate should take up my legislation to punish these pro-Hamas lunatics,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), would mandate a minimum five-year prison sentence and a fine of $1,000 or the value of the damage to the property, whichever is more.
