He has done so at least two other times in recent memory.<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u2019s viral moment was especially notable, however.<\/p>\n<p>On June 6, when a reporter asked Mazzulla to comment on the \u201chistoric\u201d nature of the fact that two black coaches made it to the NBA Finals this year (the first time since 1975), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-nba-head-coach-leaves-race-baiting-reporter-speechless-dropping-10-word-bomb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mazzulla dodged the question\u2019s race angle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he responded by simply stating, \u201cI wonder how many of those have been Christian coaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One video of the exchange shared to X has garnered 1.3 million views.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"zxx\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uBpVALWBTF\">pic.twitter.com\/uBpVALWBTF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Oren Weisfeld (@OrenWeisfeld) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OrenWeisfeld\/status\/1799498245653037193?\">June 8, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The awkward silence that followed went viral on social media, but \u2014 as mentioned above \u2014 what many may not realize is, this is far from the first time Mazzulla has stunned reporters to silence with his faith.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should more coaches speak out about their faith?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During last season\u2019s playoffs, when Mazzula\u2019s Celtics went down 0-3 to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals (they eventually went on to lose that series), a reporter asked Mazzulla how he was dealing with the media noise about his team\u2019s dire situation, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/celtics-joe-mazzulla-describes-meeting-young-terminal-cancer-patients-they-were-helping-me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Much like his response from last week, Mazzulla\u2019s answer silenced reporters and went viral. The coach shared his experiences meeting with three terminally ill girls, along with his perspective on giving thanks to God even when things aren\u2019t going his way.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cI met three girls under the age of 21 who have terminal cancer. And I thought I was helping them, but they were helping me\u2026Watching a girl that\u2019s dying, smiling, that\u2019s what it\u2019s really all about. And so having an understanding about what life is really all about and watching a girl dying and smiling and enjoying her life, that\u2019s what it\u2019s really all about,\u201d Mazzula said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always hear people give glory to God and say, \u2018thank you\u2019 when they\u2019re holding a trophy. But you never really hear it in times like this. And so for me, it\u2019s an opportunity to just sit right where I\u2019m at and just be faithful. That\u2019s what it\u2019s about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A video of that exchange shared to X by prominent NBA account \u201cNBACentral\u201d has a whopping 3.4 million views.<\/p>\n<p>Yet another example of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/celtics-player-enes-kanter-freedom-savages-warriors-owner-sick-china-admission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtics<\/a> coach throwing reporters off guard came back in December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by Fox News, a reporter asked Mazzulla what he thought about two members of the royal family \u2014 Prince William and Princess Kate \u2014 attending one of the teams\u2019 games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJesus, Mary, and Joseph?\u201d Mazzulla asked in response. \u201c\u201dOh no, I did not. I\u2019m only familiar with one royal family.
