But if she is living under that illusion, her horrible poll numbers should tend to send her crashing back to Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we don\u2019t have to guess if Harris thinks she could be president. After all, she ran for the spot against Joe Biden during the 2020 Democratic primary cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Harris, then a senator from California, got nowhere with her effort. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-kamala-harris-campaign-folds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bowed out of the race<\/a> in December 2019 without winning any primary contests and never earning more than 3.4 percent support nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>So we already know she has dreamed about a triumphant campaign for 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. But while she thinks she has the right stuff, the voters are far less sure.<\/p>\n<p>With speculation rampant that President Joe Biden could announce any day now that he is ending his re-election campaign \u2014 as unlikely as that is \u2014 some have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrats-run-focus-groups-figure-people-dont-like-kamala-harris-end-learning-brutal-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wondered if Harris could serve<\/a> as a suitable fill-in.<\/p>\n<p>Voters are very leery of Biden over his age \u2014 he would be 82 at the start of his second term \u2014 and the constant stream of photos and videos that seem to show his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/5-damning-joe-biden-quotes-hur-interview-not-senility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advancing age-related disabilities<\/a>. That leaves Democrats speculating about a replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Could it be the vice president? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/06\/12\/kamala-harris-favorability-poll-00162093\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> asked that very question in a tracking poll released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Politico\/Morning Consult <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=0000018f-f8f8-d844-a1ff-fffed00f0000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> found, however, that few think the Democrats should turn to Harris as their candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Only a third of voters overall think she could win an election if she were her party\u2019s nominee, with only three in five registered Democrats saying she could win. Worse, only a quarter of independents responded that Harris could win an election for president.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Would Kamala Harris be a good president?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Harris fared a bit better on the question of \u201cleadership,\u201d with 42 percent saying she is a strong leader. That included three-quarters of the Democratic respondents but only a third of independents.<\/p>\n<p>But, in general, the vice president suffers from very low approval ratings. The Politico poll found that only 42 percent view her favorably compared with 52 percent unfavorably.<\/p>\n<p>Dismal results like this have been true of nearly every poll focusing on the vice president since Biden won the 2020 election. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hidden-nbc-article-harris-approval-rating-hits-time-low-never-seen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A year ago<\/a>, Harris was down at 32 percent approval in one poll. In 2021, another found she had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/poll-official-kamala-harris-least-popular-vice-president-american-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plummeted<\/a> to 28 percent approval.<\/p>\n<p>The Politico poll surveyed 3,996 registered voters from May 28-29, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>Politico did its best to pump Harris up in its long report, filling the article with the voices of supporters and suggesting her recent efforts to improve her standing have helped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s done an admirable job on reproductive health and issues important to the black community and related to youth,\u201d R.L. Miller, a climate activist and Democratic National Committee member from California, told Politico.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Miller said, \u201cshe\u2019s falling into the same spot that many vice presidents fall into, which is that she doesn\u2019t have a very public role outside of her lane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople don\u2019t associate her with issues like foreign policy, which is so important these days. She isn\u2019t being credited with the larger international and domestic work,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>Miller, who said she is a fan of the vice president, lamented that Harris probably could not win an election for the top seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats have internalized the Hillary Clinton lesson: That a woman can\u2019t win. And I think it\u2019s sad,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>But all the happy talk from her supporters did not paper over the numbers. While it is highly unlikely to happen, there is a large contingent of voters who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-may-secretly-planning-replace-unpopular-kamala-harris-vp-insider-rumor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">want Harris dumped<\/a> as vice president before the November election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThirty-six percent of voters think Biden should replace Harris with another Democrat, while 39 percent want him to stick with Harris,\u201d Politico said.<\/p>\n<p>But the party may be stuck with her.<\/p>\n<p>The Politico poll asked which Democrat respondents would want to see run in 2028, assuming Biden isn\u2019t the candidate. No one even approached Harris\u2019 dismal 21 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and California Gov. Gavin Newsom were tied in second place with just 10 percent apiece, followed by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly at 4 percent.<\/p>\n<p>But as to stepping up to the No. 1 seat, chances are not good for Harris. In the end, the poll found that only 34 percent overall think she could be elected to the White House and 57 percent doubt her chances.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Politico\u2019s attempt to soften the blow, these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kamala-harris-loses-trump-head-head-poll-approval-rating-sinks-new-low\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll numbers<\/a> suggest the Democratic Party would be insane to offer Harris as their nominee, either this fall or in 2028.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
