According to a survey conducted by Resume Templates, 26% of Gen Z\u2019ers aged 18 to \u200b27 have brought\u200b a parent to \u2063a job \u2064interview.\u2064 This phenomenon includes parents accompanying their \u200cchildren\u200d to both in-person and virtual interviews, with some \u2063even participating \u200cactively in the interviews.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also\u200c reveals\u2064 other ways in which parents are heavily involved, such as\u200b submitting job \u200capplications and writing\u2062 resumes for their children.\u2063 This trend is attributed \u200bto various factors \u2062including Gen Z\u2019s perceived lack of independence \u2064and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-i-learned-that-grading-students-is-racist\/\" title=\"How I Learned That Grading Students Is Racist\">real-world skills<\/a>, as well as feelings of intimidation by the job market \u2064complexity \u2064and a lack\u200d of confidence in\u200b their own abilities.<\/p>\n<p>The article criticizes this pattern of parental involvement, suggesting it reflects \u2064a broader societal \u2064failure to prepare this generation to function as autonomous adults. Project confidence. Know how to answer that boilerplate question, \u201cWhat\u2019s your biggest flaw?\u201d Don\u2019t bring your parents along.<\/p>\n<p>Wait, what? Come again? Yes, it seems the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/risk-assessment-chief-risk-assessment-chief-major-failed-bank-organized-lgbt-pride-events-safe-spaces-everything-collapsed-reportmajor-failed-bank-organized-lgbt-pride-events-sa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safe-space<\/a> generation apparently needs mommy and\/or daddy to show up as they try to land their dream job.<\/p>\n<p>According to a survey by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.resumetemplates.com\/1-in-4-gen-zers-brought-a-parent-to-a-job-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resume Templates<\/a>, 26 percent of those ages 18 to 27 brought along a parent to a job interview \u2014 and that\u2019s just the beginning of the disturbing findings from the survey, conducted in April among 1,428 U.S.-based respondents who said they had searched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/page-2-hunter-bidens-conditions-release-orders-get-job-not\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for a job<\/a> in the last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGen Z has a reputation for lacking the independence, motivation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-border-invasion-is-about-to-get-worse\/\" title=\"Border invasion set to worsen.\">real-world knowledge<\/a> to contribute in the workplace,\u201d the employment resource provider said in a media release.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s putting it mildly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany Gen Z\u2019ers involve their parents in their interview process. In fact, 26 percent of all Gen Zers who have undergone a job search in the past year say that they have taken a parent to an interview,\u201d the media release read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf Gen Z\u2019ers who brought their parent(s), 31 percent had a parent accompany them to an in-person interview, while 29 percent had them join a virtual interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor those who had a parent come to an in-person interview, 37 percent say that their parent accompanied them to the office, 26 percent say their parent physically sat in the interview room, and 18 percent say their parent introduced themselves to the manager. Additionally, 7 percent say their parents answered questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/poll-shocker-20-percent-gen-z-positive-view-osama-bin-laden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gen Z\u2019ers<\/a> who attended virtual interviews, 71 percent said that the parent was off-camera and 29 percent of parents joined Zoom interviews with their children.<\/p>\n<p>There are no words.<\/p>\n<p>Another 24 percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/not-surprising-roughly-half-gen-z-voters-sympathetic-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gen Z<\/a> respondents said their parents submitted job applications for them and 18 percent said their parents wrote their resume from scratch for them. (Only 13 percent wrote the cover letter from scratch, thank heavens.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe top reasons Gen Z\u2019ers ask their parents to complete and submit their applications include thinking their parents\u2019 work is better (46 percent), not knowing how to communicate with hiring managers (34 percent), being unmotivated (32 percent), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-mental-health-pandemic-is-already-here\/\" title=\"The Mental Health Pandemic Is Already Here\">poor mental health<\/a> (22 percent),\u201d the media release read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number of employment opportunities and complexity of the job market are factors causing Gen Z\u2019ers to seek parental help,\u201d said Andrew Stoner, an executive resume writer for the firm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKnowing what a company does, verifying its legitimacy, and understanding what a specific job entails are tasks that can be challenging for someone without any formal work experience. A parent\u2019s help should bolster a child\u2019s development and eventual independence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile a parent writing a resume or cover letter isn\u2019t necessarily an ethical concern, a child should be ready to fully discuss every aspect of their resume with a potential employer,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBroadly speaking, Gen Z can become more independent through a healthy partnership; one that is led by a willing parent and develops critical life skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, a caveat \u2014 while Resume Templates does a great deal of market research into trends in the employment market, it\u2019s also in the business of selling resume services. Furthermore, this appears to be more of an informal survey than a rigorous poll.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, do you know what the number of 18- to 27-year-old job seekers bringing parents to job interviews should be? Zero. Zilch. Nada. No matter how informal the poll, there shouldn\u2019t be <em>a. single. person. who. admits. to. this.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you have some degree of schooling, you should not need your mom or dad to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/don-lemon-offered-job-fast-food-restaurant-chain-just-send-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">write your resume<\/a>. You do not need them to write your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/student-autism-writes-cover-letter-asking-employers-take-chance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cover letter<\/a>. And you certainly do not need them to <em>sit in an interview with you<\/em> like you just got caught flushing a cherry bomb down the toilet at your middle school.<\/p>\n<p>Between helicopter parenting, safe-space culture, digital lives replacing life skills, and our culture\u2019s collective tendency to treat maturity and self-reliance as a millstone around one\u2019s neck, it appears we\u2019ve finally raised a generation completely unable to function as autonomous adults.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t just one of those \u201ckids today!\u201d rants we\u2019ve heard from time immemorial. This time, we\u2019ve really done it. And you don\u2019t need this survey to back this assertion up. Look around you. It takes a village, they say \u2014 and our village has raised a generation that knows how to use 86 different Instagram filters but doesn\u2019t know the difference between a man and a woman.<\/p>\n<p>There isn\u2019t a single person on God\u2019s green Earth who should openly admit to bringing a parent along to a job interview. Period.
