The incident\u200d occurred at Central Elementary School \u200din\u2062 December, leading to hospitalization for five of the \u200bchildren. \u200dAlthough initially\u200b charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession \u200dof a firearm by a \u2062convicted felon, Dugan \u2064pleaded guilty to the firearm charge\u200b in \u2063exchange for dismissal of the contributing charge. The investigation\u200c into the \u200bgummy bear incident is ongoing, separate from the charges resulting from the \u2062search \u200dof Dugan\u2019s residence, where the firearm was found. All\u2063 affected students recovered \u200bwithin a week \u2062of the incident.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>A man who was charged after seven elementary school students in Amherst, Virginia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/virginia-elementary-students-rushed-to-hospital-after-ingesting-fentanyl-laced-gummy-bears-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ate gummies<\/a> from a bag that later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-spike-in-florida-coronavirus-cases-despite-no-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"No Spike in Florida Coronavirus Cases Despite No Mask Mandate\">tested positive<\/a> for fentanyl accepted a plea deal on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>After the December incident at Central Elementary School sent five children to the hospital, a search warrant was issued for Clifford Dugan Jr.\u2019s residence, and he was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, WSLS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsls.com\/news\/local\/2024\/06\/10\/man-charged-in-connection-with-fentanyl-incident-at-amherst-co-elementary-school-accepts-plea-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Dugan pleaded guilty to the firearm charge on Monday, and in return, his contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge was dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>Amherst County Assistant Commonwealth\u2019s Attorney Adam Stanley said Dugan\u2019s charges came from the search warrant and are separate from the gummy bear incident at the school, which remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said in December that one of the students who ate the gummies brought the bag of candy to school and shared the gummies with six other students during lunch. After eating the gummies, two children were rushed to the hospital by ambulance and three others were taken to the hospital by their parents. An SRO at the school noticed residue in the bag that contained the gummies, and the bag later tested positive for fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>All five students who received medical attention after eating the gummies from the fentanyl-positive bag recovered within a week, the Amherst New Era-Progress <a href=\"https:\/\/newsadvance.com\/news\/community\/new-era-progress\/amherst-man-arrested-after-schools-fentanyl-scare-found-guilty-of-firearm-possession\/article_da6ef598-274c-11ef-a5ee-3b1ffb19700d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dugan and 26-year-old Nicole Sanders were arrested shortly after the incident. Sanders was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and the possession of a schedule I or II drug.
