Thomas had\u200b aimed to compete against women in the Olympics but was stopped by a ruling from the Court for Arbitration of Sport, \u2062which found that Thomas lacked \u200cstanding to challenge the policy. World Aquatics had previously introduced an &#8220;open&#8221; category for transgender swimmers\u200b in 2022 after banning\u200c male swimmers from women\u2019s events. The\u200d court&#8217;s decision aligns with\u2063 World Aquatics&#8217;\u2062 policy as recognized by the International \u200dOlympic Committee.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Trans-identifying swimmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/lia-thomas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lia Thomas<\/a> lost his legal challenge over rules that prevent transgender swimmers from competing in elite women\u2019s races, including the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas mounted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/lia-thomas-seeking-legal-avenues-to-overturn-regulations-on-male-swimmers-competing-with-women-has-eyes-set-on-olympics-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legal challenge<\/a> against World Aquatics earlier this year, reportedly with his eyes set on competing against women in the Olympics, but in a ruling released Wednesday, the Court for Arbitration of Sport dismissed Thomas\u2019 request for arbitration, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/lia-thomas-olympics-dreams-dashed-after-legal-challenge-world-aquatics-transgender-policy-fails\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. World Aquatics, which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee, banned male swimmers from competing in women\u2019s swimming in 2022, creating an \u201copen\u201d category for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-womens-swimming-champion-calls-for-end-to-trans-swimmers-in-womens-sports\/\" title=\"WATCH: Women's Swimming Champion Calls for End to Trans Swimmers in Women's Sports\">trans swimmers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panel concludes that [Thomas] lacks standing to challenge the policy and the operational requirements in the framework of the present proceeding,\u201d the court said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ruling, USA Swimming granted Thomas\u2019 request for \u201cself-identity verification,\u201d but the judges said USA Swimming had no authority to grant Thomas that request and \u201cmodify such scope of application\u201d of the world governing body\u2019s rules, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/swimming-transgender-rules-lia-thomas-8a626b5e7f7eafe5088b643c4d804c56\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>World Aquatics said the court\u2019s decision \u201cis a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-school-officials-unions-reach-tentative-deal-after-city-files-lawsuit\/\" title=\"San Francisco School Officials, Unions, Reach Tentative Deal After City Files Lawsuit\">major step forward<\/a> in our efforts to protect women\u2019s sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorld Aquatics is dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes fairness, respect, and equal opportunities for athletes of all genders and we reaffirm this pledge,\u201d the governing body added. \u201cOur policies and practices are continuously evaluated to ensure they align with these core values, which led to the introduction of our open category. We remain committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to uphold the principles of inclusivity in aquatic sports and remain confident that our gender inclusion policy represents a fair approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas, a former UPenn swimmer, was cast into the spotlight in 2022 after winning the NCAA Division 1 championship in the 500-yard freestyle.
