Some Republicans praised the conviction as a job, eventually, well done by the Justice Department, but many GOP members argued that the verdict was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3037347\/republicans-hunter-biden-verdict-illusion-equal-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>simply a smoke show to distract<\/a> from the \u201cpolitical persecution\u201d of former President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Several Democrats are remaining tight-lipped on the verdict, arguing that the conviction is nothing other than the way the legal system is supposed to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had his day in court, a jury of his peers found beyond a reasonable doubt that he was guilty, and nobody\u2019s above the law,\u201d Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-MA) said to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) agreed with Baldwin, saying, \u201cThat\u2019s just the way the legal process works.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) went further to say, \u201cI haven\u2019t really thought about\u201d the verdict. <\/p>\n<p>Republicans have pointed to what they called the \u201csweetheart\u201d plea deal Biden was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2573415\/hunter-biden-plea-collapsed-deal-leaves-first-sons-lawyers-furious\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>nearly granted<\/a>, plus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-georgian-president-during-2008-putin-invasion-starts-hunger-strike-in-prison\/\" title=\"Ex-Georgian President During 2008 Putin Invasion Starts Hunger Strike in Prison\">corruption allegations<\/a> at the center of the House GOP\u2019s impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, to counter Democratic messaging that the verdict is evidence of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-tim-scott-vows-to-finish-biden-probe-fire-garland-wray-if-elected-president\/\" title=\"Sen. Tim Scott pledges to complete Biden investigation and replace Garland, Wray if elected President.\">fair justice system<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHunter Biden\u2019s guilty verdict is nothing more than the Left\u2019s attempt to create the illusion of equal justice,\u201d Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) said Tuesday. \u201cDon\u2019t fall for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) echoed Clyde, arguing that \u201ctiming is everything\u201d and blasting the verdict as a \u201cveil of fairness in the Justice System\u201d under Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Some Republicans have argued that the \u201csweetheart\u201d deal distracted from any other possible prosecutions for the first son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a reason that no prosecutor in the country took up the prosecution again, except for a political hack in New York City,\u201d Marcus Molinaro (R-NY) told reporters Tuesday. \u201cAnd I understand what that sounds like. I serve and live in New York. I know exactly what kind of person Al Bragg is. I know that he is willing to use his office for political benefit, while we see countless numbers of individuals just simply not get prosecuted for heinous crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, some Democrats argue the verdict proves GOP claims that the DOJ is weaponized against Trump are invalid, given that a court criminally convicted the son of a sitting president for the first time in history. When asked if the verdict negated Republicans\u2019 two-tiered argument, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) grinned and said, \u201cI\u2019ll let other people speculate about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does make them seem a bit preposterous, doesn\u2019t it?\u201d Rep. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>However, some GOP members are still waiting for the other shoe to drop, despite Joe Biden and the White House stating they will not pardon Hunter Biden. However, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/seungminkim\/status\/1800916390272262172\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>did not rule out<\/a> commuting the first son\u2019s sentence on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) told reporters Tuesday that Republicans are viewing the outcome as a likely \u201cslap on the wrist\u201d for the president\u2019s son and nothing more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd everybody\u2019s saying, \u2018Well, it\u2019s not a two-tiered system,\u2019 but in fact, it is,\u201d Burchett added. \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s stuff, the statute has passed and they moved it up from a misdemeanor to a felony.
