Biden has previously addressed the possibility that he could pardon his son, and he has said that he would not do so.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Karine Jean-Pierre refuses to say if Biden will commute Hunter\u2019s forthcoming sentence following his felony convictions on gun crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has previously claimed he wouldn\u2019t *pardon* him. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ujTjMXGnAm\">pic.twitter.com\/ujTjMXGnAm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1800916389596721411?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 12, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One reporter began the exchange by asking Jean-Pierre whether a commutation would be \u201con the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, look, as I stated at the top, I don\u2019t have anything to say beyond to your first question, beyond what the president\u2019s statement was yesterday. He\u2019s been very clear. We\u2019ve been very clear, you know, he loves his son. And he and the first lady love their son and they support their son. I just don\u2019t have anything, certainly anything beyond that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I will say is look, I haven\u2019t spoken to the president about this since the verdict came out and as we all know the sentencing hasn\u2019t even been scheduled yet,\u201d Jean-Pierre added, noting that the sentencing in Hunter\u2019s case was scheduled for later in the summer. \u201cBut you saw the president do an interview just last week when he was in Normandy and he was asked a question, several questions, a couple questions about this and he very clear, very up front, obviously very definitive and I just don\u2019t have anything he, you have his own words. I just don\u2019t have anything beyond that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another reporter pressed again: \u201cSo you\u2019re not ruling out that he would commute the sentence?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Pierre responded in the same fashion, repeating, \u201cWhat I\u2019m saying is that the president, I have not spoken to the president about this and what I\u2019m saying is he was asked about a pardon, he was asked about, he was asked about the trial specifically and he answered it very clearly, very forthright. As we know the sentencing hasn\u2019t even been scheduled yet, I don\u2019t have anything beyond what the president said.
