The decision\u2062 came after a unanimous vote\u200c by the City Council. \u2062Both existing and new employees were affected by this mandate. Trump\">vaccine mandate<\/a> \u2064to seek reinstatement to their positions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/los-angeles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Los Angeles<\/a> has ended its mandate for city employees to get the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>COVID-19 vaccine<\/a> over a year after the country\u2019s national emergency on the disease ended in May 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council voted 13-0 <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/post\/la-city-council-ends-employee-covid-19-vaccine\/14936871\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>to end the vaccine mandate<\/a>, which had applied to both preexisting and new employees. The city has also provided a way for fired employees to apply to get their jobs back, though their reemployment is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been two years, nine months, and 22 days since this city intentionally and willfully devastated the lives of its dedicated employees,\u201d attorney Jennifer Kennedy said. \u201cYou stripped careers and commands from your LAPD officers and your LAFD firefighters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy stated that she is representing workers in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>lawsuit<\/a> against the city, with the plaintiffs being employees who had been fired from their jobs due to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vaccination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>mandate<\/a>. The plaintiffs are asking for backpay and damages in this suit.<\/p>\n<p>A total of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/los-angeles-considers-ending-controversial-vaccine-mandate-city-employees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>86 employees lost their jobs<\/a> from this mandate due to not complying with it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In January 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/633093\/biden-administration-withdraws-employer-vaccine-mandate-after-supreme-court-drubbing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the Supreme Court ruled 6-3<\/a> that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/small-business-group-to-sue-biden-over-vaccine-mandate\/\" title=\"Small Business Group To Sue Biden Over Vaccine Mandate\">national vaccine mandate<\/a> by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration could not move forward. This mandate would have required businesses with 100 or more employees to have workers either get vaccinated against COVID-19 or wear a mask and test on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2585527\/biden-signs-bill-ending-covid-19-national-emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>signed a bill in April 2023 that ended the COVID-19 national emergency<\/a>, with the bill going into effect a month later.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Los Angeles has terminated its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for city employees, over a year after the national emergency concluded in May 2023.
