Andy Ogles\u200c (R-TN), has criticized the Biden administration&#8217;s \u200drecent \u200cfinal determination on \u200denergy\u200b guidelines for \u2062housing. They claim that the new\u2063 rules, which require single-family and multifamily homes to adhere to the 2021 International Energy \u200dConservation Code (IECC), will increase housing prices\u200c and worsen the affordability crisis. The\u200d new guidelines, including costly requirements like double-wall construction \u200dfor new homes, could significantly impact the budget for home construction.\u2062 These concerns were highlighted in\u2063 a letter addressed to the U.S. \u200bDepartment of Housing \u2064and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of \u2064Agriculture. Andy Ogles (R-TN) slammed the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> Biden<\/a> administration\u2019s new final determination on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>energy<\/a> guidelines for single-family homes, saying they will raise prices in an already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-housing-market-goes-cold\/\" title=\"The Housing Market Goes Cold\">unaffordable housing market<\/a>, in a letter Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Ogles and eight other House Republicans signed the correspondence, addressed to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development acting Secretary Adrianne Todman and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, they expressed concerns that the new rules will force all new single-family and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-housing-starts-rebound-in-august-building-permits-decline\/\" title=\"U.S. housing starts rebound in August; building permits decline\">multi-family housing units<\/a> to comply with the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code. They said this mandate \u201cis poised to worsen the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/riding-post-recall-mandate-newsom-bans-most-single-family-only-zoning-in-california\/\" title=\"Riding Post-Recall Mandate, Newsom Bans Most Single-Family-Only Zoning In California\">housing affordability crisis<\/a> and have adverse effects on the nation\u2019s most vulnerable home seekers and renters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 IECC mandated certain additions to new homes, including a second wall for a double-wall home, which <a href=\"https:\/\/kchba.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/KCHBA-2021-IECC-Consumer-Impact_KCMO_Updated-DS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>some<\/a> home-building groups say could cost up to $31,800 for a 2,400-square-foot home. The IECC is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildwithrise.com\/stories\/the-international-energy-conservation-code-iecc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>model<\/a> of legislation for legislators across the country to consider when seeking to mandate certain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/xi-jinping-scolds-world-on-climate-change-while-china-keeps-polluting\/\" title=\"Xi Jinping Scolds World on Climate Change While China Keeps Polluting\">energy efficiency standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers cited the additional cost to home buyers and the deterrent to new home construction as reasons against the guidelines. Reps. Alex Mooney (R-WV), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Warren Davidson (R-OH), Ralph Norman (R-SC), John Rose (R-TN), Dan Meuser (R-PA), Monica De La Cruz (R-TX) and Roger Williams (R-TX) co-signed the letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is yet another example of the Biden Administration\u2019s efforts to keep Americans down. Folks are already struggling to buy homes as interest rates remain high. To add an average of $31,000 on top of the inflated housing prices is unimaginable,\u201d\u00a0Ogles said. \u201cThis mandate will harm the ability of individuals and families to buy homes and provide little to no benefit to those forced to rent instead of purchase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to Donalds\u2019s and Williams\u2019s offices but did not receive a response.<\/p>\n<p>The letter concludes by saying, \u201cIf this is enacted, the results will be catastrophic for home builders in the United States whose buyers use FHA, USDA, and indirectly VA loans for their financing. We urge you to withdraw this determination and refrain from engaging in other initiatives that will curb new construction and harm housing affordability nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2024\/04\/26\/2024-08793\/final-determination-adoption-of-energy-efficiency-standards-for-new-construction-of-hud--and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>determination<\/a> cites \u201ca private benefit for residents, either homeowners or renters, in the form of lower energy costs, and the external social value of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs)\u201d as reasons for implementing the energy-saving building codes.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
