Upper III<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 12, 2024 at 7:34am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Who thought it was a good idea to schedule President Joe Biden to deliver speech on gun control the same week in which it has been expected \u2014 and for some time, now \u2014 that the verdict in his son\u2019s trial on three gun-related felonies would come back?<\/p>\n<p>When both reliably left-leaning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/11\/us\/politics\/biden-gun-violence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/11\/politics\/joe-biden-hunter-biden-gun-violence-speech\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> feel obliged to mention the juxtaposition of the two events, you know the timing could have been better.<\/p>\n<p>CNN, to its credit (and that\u2019s not a phrase I use in relation to CNN very often, I assure you), even called the speech \u201can awkward political moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times, however, settled for merely mentioning that Biden \u201cdid not address his son\u2019s conviction during his remarks on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hardly surprising. What was Biden supposed to say about creating more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/another-wave-of-portland-police-quit-amid-massive-spike-in-shootings-and-stabbings-fire-dept-responding-to-10-homeless-tent-fires-a-day\/\" title=\"Another Wave Of Portland Police Quit Amid Massive Spike In Shootings And Stabbings; Fire Dept. Responding To 10+ Homeless Tent Fires A Day\">gun control laws<\/a> when his son had been convicted merely hours earlier on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-jury-announces-verdict-hunter-biden-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three counts<\/a> of violating gun control laws?<\/p>\n<p>Biden spoke Tuesday at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/anti-gun-group-roasted-trying-get-people-turn-thanksgiving-dinner-argument-firearms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Everytown for Gun Safety<\/a> event, \u201cGun Sense University,\u201d and one of the things apparently missing from the speech was just that \u2014 gun sense.<\/p>\n<p>For example, he asked at one point, \u201cWho in God\u2019s name needs a magazine that can hold 200 shells?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody!\u201d yelled someone in the audience \u2014 which is actually the correct answer. Which is why no such magazine exists.<\/p>\n<p>I mean, imagine the weight that magazine would add to the weapon. Imagine the bulk. Imagine the force required to load it against a spring powerful enough to feed 200 rounds into the weapon\u2019s chamber.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should Hunter Biden be sentenced to prison?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying that no one has ever tried to create such at thing, but no gun manufacturer produced one in any quantity, and no responsible gun owner would want it, as it would probably misfeed a few rounds in.<\/p>\n<p>Also, there are, of course, drums for belt-fed automatic weapons that are already highly regulated by federal law. But a 200-round mag for my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joy-behar-gives-ignorant-take-ar-15-imaginable-say-shoot-deer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AR-15<\/a>? The thing\u2019s heavy enough already, thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>So if 200-round magazines don\u2019t exist, why did Biden ask the question? Your guess is as good as his, probably.<\/p>\n<p>You can watch Biden\u2019s roughly 20-minute speech in its entirety below. (I\u2019m not sure why you\u2019d want to, but you can.)<\/p>\n<p>The president also reiterated his calls for a ban on so-called \u201cassault weapons,\u201d despite the fact that any weapon can be used to assault. (In fact, that\u2019s what they\u2019re designed for.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden has pushed for universal background checks of gun purchases, increased red-flag laws that allow law enforcement to confiscate guns from those deemed a threat to safety, and a ban on assault weapons,\u201d CNN reported. \u201cHe has said he would make those efforts a priority if he were to attain a second term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That raises the question of why, if these issues are truly vital to the safety of U.S. citizens, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/federal-judge-halts-bidens-new-gun-control-rule-day-go-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> and his allies on the left have repeatedly claimed, he hasn\u2019t prioritized them during his first term.<\/p>\n<p>Who knows?
