This ruling prohibits individuals from running for either the U.S. Senate or \u2062U.S. House of Representatives if they\u200b will be 81 years old or older by December 31 of \u2062the year before their \u200bterm would end. The measure received strong\u2064 support with 60.9% of \u2063voters \u2064in favor, based on reports from over 95% of\u2064 precincts.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>Voters in North Dakota elected to initiate a measure to put an age limit restriction on candidates running for Congress. <\/p>\n<p>Measure 1, or the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/North_Dakota_Initiated_Measure_1,_Congressional_Age_Limits_Initiative_(June_2024)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Congressional Age Limits Initiative<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-hit-with-second-ethics-complaint-before-prospective-presidential-bid-takes-off\/\" title=\"DeSantis hit with second ethics complaint before prospective presidential bid takes off\">prohibits candidates<\/a> from running for the U.S. Senate or U.S. House of Representatives if he or she will turn 81 years old by December 31 of the year before their end of term. North Dakota voters approved the measure on Tuesday. With more than <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/06\/11\/us\/elections\/results-north-dakota-measure-1-create-congressional-age-limit.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">95% of precincts reporting<\/a>, 60.9% of voters supported the measure compared to 39.1% who opposed it. <\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> previously <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3036955\/north-dakota-could-introduce-rule-aging-lawmakers\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> on the concerns of many of North Dakota\u2019s older residents about the measure. Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) was a vocal opponent of Measure 1, expressing his disbelief that \u201cany patriotic conservative would vote to limit their choices.\u201d His stance was met with a significant portion of the public supporting the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, while Measure 1 puts an age limit on who could run for office, the bill also provided guidelines in case federal law required candidates to appear on the ballot if their age was greater than 81 years old. In such a case, Measure 1 would necessitate printing the candidate\u2019s age \u201cmust be printed next to the names of all candidates for all federal legislative offices in future elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-did-audits-in-pennsylvania-reveal-that-donald-trump-won-the-election\/\" title=\"FACT CHECK: Did Audits In Pennsylvania Reveal That Donald Trump Won The Election?\">election results revealed<\/a> a clear public sentiment, with the majority of people in the state disagreeing with Sen. Kevin Cramer\u2019s opposition to Measure 1. Many proponents of the measure believe that supporting it could pave the way for real change and set a precedent for the rest of the country. <\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200b\u201cMost people think it\u2019s common sense that politicians should retire at some point,\u201d said Jared Hendrix, a Republican politician in the state.
