This response comes amidst a \u200dbacklash from the GOP, which accuses \u2062the DOJ of engaging in\u200c partisan \u200clegal actions. In an \u2064op-ed published by The Washington Post, Garland highlighted an\u200d increase in conspiracy theories, lies, and threats of violence\u200d directed against DOJ \u200bpersonnel, including the FBI. He stressed that the DOJ&#8217;s\u200b actions are based solely on law\u2064 enforcement, without regard to \u200bpolitical\u2063 affiliations \u200cor\u2064 personal attributes, \u200dand asserted that the\u200d DOJ will not be intimidated by these \u2064ongoing attacks.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/merrick-garland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> is responding to what he says are \u201cunfounded attacks\u201d that are endangering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/department-of-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Justice<\/a> (DOJ) employees and, by extension, the state of democracy in the United States as the GOP pushes back against what they see as partisan law fare.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/06\/11\/merrick-garland-justice-department-threats-fbi-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> an op-ed on Monday in which Garland called for an end to a wave of conspiracy theories, lies, intimidation and threats of violence that he said have escalated against public servants under his charge \u2014 including the FBI \u2014 in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Garland made reference to the myriad prosecutions against former President Donald Trump as he runs another campaign for the White House, including the hush-money case in New York in which a jury recently found Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/verdict-trump-found-guilty-on-all-charges-in-hush-money-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guilty<\/a> on all the felony counts he faced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese attacks come in the form of threats to defund particular department investigations, most recently the special counsel\u2019s prosecution of the former president,\u201d Garland wrote, alluding to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jim-jordan-proposes-defunding-prosecutors-in-trump-cases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House GOP push<\/a> to block or limit federal grant funds for Trump prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>Garland said conspiracy theories are used to undermine \u201cpublic trust in the judicial process itself.\u201d Among them, he said, are \u201cfalse claims that a case brought by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/grand-jury-indicts-school-board-members-for-alleged-secret-discussions-about-racial-agenda\/\" title=\"Grand Jury Indicts School Board Members For Alleged Secret Discussions About Racial Agenda\">local district attorney<\/a> and resolved by a jury verdict in a state trial was somehow controlled by the Justice Department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DOJ officials \u201cdo not investigate people because of their last name, their political affiliation, the size of their bank account, where they come from or what they look like. We investigate and prosecute violations of federal law \u2014 nothing more, nothing less,\u201d Garland wrote.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712932862202000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not be intimidated by these attacks,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it is absurd and dangerous that public servants, many of whom risk their lives every day, are being threatened for simply doing their jobs and adhering to the principles that have long guided the Justice Department\u2019s work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The op-ed comes as House Republicans are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?536291-1\/house-rules-committee-debates-attorney-general-garland-contempt-congress-resolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moving toward<\/a> holding Garland in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-judiciary-to-begin-contempt-proceedings-against-garland-over-biden-docs-probe-audio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contempt of Congress<\/a> for defying a subpoena to hand over recordings from special counsel Robert Hur\u2019s investigation into President Joe Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day Garland similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/merrick-garland-congress-republicans-justice-department-02ed2ff53f75e3ed9bc955f9f15d87bb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defended<\/a> the DOJ before a House panel last week, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-house-republicans-unpack-three-pronged-response-to-prosecutions-against-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cthree-pronged\u201d response<\/a> to what Republicans have described as a \u201cweaponized\u201d justice system using investigations, legislation, and power of the purse.<\/p>\n<p>Garland insisted in his op-ed the DOJ does not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-missouris-eric-greitens-on-those-who-smeared-kyle-rittenhouse-he-should-sue-them-all\/\" title=\"Exclusive\u2014 Missouri\u2019s Eric Greitens on Those Who Smeared Kyle Rittenhouse: \u2018He Should Sue Them All\u2019\">make political decisions<\/a> in criminal investigations, a charge GOP critics have made in regard to the Trump cases and others, and warned \u201cdemocracy cannot survive\u201d without a justice system that guarantees equal treatment of all its citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisagreements about politics are good for our democracy. They are normal,\u201d Garland wrote. \u201cBut using conspiracy theories, falsehoods, violence and threats of violence to affect political outcomes is not normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/garland-blasts-baseless-attacks-on-doj-absurd-and-dangerous\/\" title=\"Garland condemns 'baseless' attacks on DOJ as 'absurd and dangerous\">short-term political benefits<\/a> of those tactics will never make up for the long-term cost to our country,\u201d he added. \u201cContinued unfounded attacks against the Justice Department\u2019s employees are dangerous for people\u2019s safety.
