On the other \u2063hand, Republicans are \u2063endorsing a potential ballot measure called the Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act, which seeks\u2064 to modify Proposition 47\u2014a 2014 initiative that reduced penalties for certain\u200b crimes. This modification is intended to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reports-crime-filth-fear-at-bidens-border-camps\/\" title=\"Reports: Crime, Filth &#038; Fear at Biden\u2019s Border Camps\">impose harsher penalties<\/a> for drug dealers and repeat theft offenders. Republicans had been supportive of the efforts but have also pushed for a ballot measure in November to modify Proposition 47, a 2014 ballot measure that reduced penalties for some crimes in the state that they have said is at the core of the spike in crime in the past decade. However, Republicans now say the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/l-a-county-board-moves-to-give-itself-power-to-oust-sheriff-from-office\/\" title=\"L.A. County Board Moves To Give Itself Power To Oust Sheriff From Office\">proposed ballot measure<\/a> is being sabotaged.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed ballot measure, titled the Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act, would enhance some penalties for drug dealers along with other enhanced penalties for criminals who have previously committed thefts. The measure appears on track to qualify for the ballot in November.<\/p>\n<p>After the bills were unveiled last week, GOP leaders in the legislature claimed that Democrats tried to add \u201cpoison pill\u201d amendments in the form of interoperability clauses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo combat the\u00a0California\u00a0crime wave, we need to strengthen our laws, both in the Legislature and at the ballot box,\u201d\u00a0Republican state Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones said in a statement last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s irresponsible to force voters into a false choice between the two. Unfortunately, some Democrat politicians are too prideful to admit their mistake with Prop 47 and they continue to deny the desperate need for reform. The Democrats\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/serious-doubts-about-bipartisan-senate-gun-control-deal-emerge\/\" title=\"Serious Doubts About \"Bipartisan\" Senate Gun Control Deal Emerge\">poison pill amendments<\/a> are a cynical attempt to mislead voters and prevent the necessary overhaul of our broken laws,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Jones and state Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher sent a letter to Democratic leadership announcing their opposition to the amendments, saying that \u201cwe cannot endorse amendments that play<br \/>politics with public safety\u201d and urging them \u201cto reject these poison pill amendments and show real commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kim-foxx-replaces-head-of-unit-investigating-wrongful-convictions-after-pleas-from-incarcerated-relatives\/\" title=\"Kim Foxx replaces head of unit investigating wrongful convictions following pleas from incarcerated relatives\">meaningful criminal justice reform<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats on Monday defended their efforts and claimed that the ballot measure would cause conflicts with the pieces of legislation.
