Then He Committed Suicide, Fearing \u2018Rapist\u2019 Label Would Stick\">guilty verdict<\/a> in a New York hush-money case.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/11\/us\/politics\/alvin-bragg-congress-trump-conviction.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> on Tuesday that the hearing is set for July 12. Matthew Colangelo, a prosecutor who has drawn <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/chairman-jordan-demands-documents-about-bragg-prosecutor-matthew-colangelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scrutiny<\/a> for making the jump to Bragg\u2019s team after leaving a senior role at the Biden administration\u2019s Department of Justice (DOJ), is also expected to testify.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe respect our government institutions and plan to appear voluntarily before the subcommittee,\u201d Bragg\u2019s office said in a statement after bemoaning \u201cdangerous misinformation, baseless claims and conspiracy theories\u201d following the jury\u2019s guilty verdict.<\/p>\n<p>Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who also leads the Weaponization panel, had been pushing for Bragg to appear at a hearing on June 13 about the DA\u2019s office. Bragg previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bragg-agrees-to-testify-before-house-on-trump-prosecution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed<\/a> to testify, but pushed for a new date because the Trump case had yet to run its full course.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing planned for this week is still on, with Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, former Federal Election Commission Commissioner Trey Trainor, and Baker Hostetler of counsel Elizabeth Price Foley <a href=\"https:\/\/house.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=0275399506e2bdd8fe2012b77&#038;id=3322de2da3&#038;e=5ad049e321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> as witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of May, jurors returned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/verdict-trump-found-guilty-on-all-charges-in-hush-money-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guilty verdict<\/a> against Trump on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up a tryst with adult film star Stormy Daniels as part of a \u201ccatch-and-kill\u201d scheme to influence the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712932862202000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Trump, who denied the affair and pleaded not guilty to the charges, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/white-house-race-plunges-into-uncharted-territory-trump-awaits-july-sentencing-2024-05-31\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vowed<\/a> to appeal. Bragg praised the jury and said his team followed \u201cthe facts and the law without fear or favor.\u201d Sentencing is scheduled for July 11. It remains unclear whether Trump will get any prison time.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have raised concerns about Bragg being motivated by politics, noting how the feds declined to bring the hush-money case against Trump. They also point to Colangelo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/JDJ%20to%20AG%20Letitia%20James%20re%20Colangelo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past work<\/a>, which included leading a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/05\/nyregion\/alvin-bragg-trump-investigation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">civil inquiry<\/a> against Trump in New York before joining the DOJ.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=00000190-075b-d29e-a9f3-677bfc9e0000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">responded<\/a> to a demand by Jordan for information that might show a coordinated effort, claiming a \u201ccomprehensive search\u201d of emails turned up no communications between the Manhattan DA and agency leadership regarding the investigation and prosecution of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>As he runs another campaign for the White House, Trump is facing three other criminal matters on the state and federal level related to his handling of classified documents and the 2020 election.
