The suggestion by Stephanopoulos comes as Trump has insisted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2020-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2020 presidential election<\/a> results were illegitimate. The ABC News host suggested that asking him again during the debate would provide a different context from that which he has normally commented. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn front of 140 million people, it\u2019s a little different on a stage like that, and when it\u2019s an actual debate, but it\u2019s a real test,\u201d Stephanopoulos said.<\/p>\n<p>Stephanopoulos added that President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> would have to provide a good defense for the current state of the United States, including the rising cost of living and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mike-pence-releases-new-book-after-dropping-out-of-the-2024-presidential-race\/\" title=\"Mike Pence releases new book after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race\">issues affecting families<\/a>. However, he stressed that it is \u201cfundamental\u201d if a candidate like Trump can accept the election results and the transfer of power.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, attorneys for Trump named ABC News and Stephanopoulos in a lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2927431\/trump-defamation-lawsuit-against-george-stephanopoulos-abc-nancy-mace-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>accusing the defendants of defamation and tarnishing Trump\u2019s reputation<\/a>, which was filed after Stephanopoulos conducted an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC). During this interview, the ABC News host erroneously claimed that Trump had been found \u201cliable for rape,\u201d referring to the former president\u2019s case against E. Kennedy Jr. is also vying for a spot on the debate stage. Kennedy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3033334\/rfk-nears-joining-debate-trump-biden-minnesota-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>has submitted the required signatures to put him on Minnesota\u2019s ballot<\/a> and has also surpassed eligibility of 270 electoral votes.
